We have a Stihl 034 chain saw that has gotten beat up to the point of disrepair and need to replace the body on it. The powerplant still runs strong and we have plenty of bars/clutches etc.

Been looking on ebay for one with a bad powerplant for switching stuff out and using the casting from it to put the 034 powerplant into.

My question is how interchangeable these are. I have tried searching google without much luck and need to know if it is possible to use the casting from a smaller engined saw to put the 034 guts into, or if there is a specific range the 034 powerplant will fit into. I can already tell that the pro line uses a different casting, but not sure if the guts from the 034 will still fit. Obviously we are going for lowest cost possible, so buying a new saw or new castings from a dealer is not possible.

I will be visiting the local dealer on Monday, but I have never worked with them before, so I was hoping to get a leg up in case the dealer would just try to sell me a new saw, and be tight-lipped about the interchangeability of parts.

Thanks in advance.

The poly handle is destroyed which makes the throttle unusable. The metal handgrip is ok, but the poly casting is unfixable, long story...

what happen, you drop it while trying to juggle?

I dunno, check with the stihl dealer and hope they don't jew you outta your money. I would think that if you got another one from around the same period it'd be compatible. who knows, you may just be able to order a housing from them.

Dealer should be able to get the parts. We got some body parts for our 028. It is at least 20 years old.
