My roommates cat meows all the time. If he's wandering around on his own he'll just keep meowing. He's only been at the house a few days but he's still meowing as much.

He has food, water, and a litter box. All of which he has been able to access so we know that's not the issue. He's able to go outside on the balcony and explore, as well has hang out on window sills to look outside. We give him lots of attention, so he shouldn't be missing out on anything.

Overall he's a really calm cat, he lays around like all cats, is very comfortable with people, isn't jumpy or scared easily. He's also a year old.

What else could it be?

Some kitties like to talk. One of mine has vocalizations ranging from meows to groans to singsong noises.

You mention that the kitty's only been at the house a few days? He might be going through an adjustment period.

And f you're still not sure, get him to a vet, just to be safe. If this behavior is abnormal for him, it might be best to get it checked out.

He's probably still nervous at your new place. Give him a while to settle in and get used to the surroundings and he'll likely calm down.

Cats can sometimes take months to get used to a new place. He'll calm down once he's comfortable there and understands that "this is home."

is it a loud or quiet meow?

if it is loud he could be having a hearing issue.

this mostly affects old cats though. They can't hear themselves as well and, like people, start talking loud.

I have two cats and they both meow all the time for no reason at all.

It's just what some cats do.

Holy crap same here.... he meows constantly when he has toys in his mouth.. its cute, but it can be annoying when it goes on for like 5-10 minutes straight.. haha

We have 2 cats. The younger cat will meow loudly and constantly until it can find the other cat, which is typically hiding from her. Maybe your cat is doing the same? (looking for other cats/previous siblings)

That's what I was going to say. If it seems like he's moving around meowing it's because he's looking for a buddy. Cats always do better when they have a buddy.

My family's new kitten constantly meows, but I think it' just something he likes to do. He loves attention, so I think that's his way of making sure he gets it :p. I like to meow right back to him, and boy does he love that.

My male cat fell off our second floor balcony last week. He's fine but I was sure worried!
I had a cat that jumped off a neighbor's 2nd floor balcony. She was fine, didn't even slow her down. And she was older, too, at the time. ~10-11 years old.

Agreed. It's really no more difficult/hassle to care for two cats than one.
Yeah, there's the added vet/food expenses and you have to clean the litter box every day, but two cats (who like each other otherwise it's a problem) are better for the animal.
