Any casino game tips?

Well I turned 18 a few days ago and already made it out to the casino twice. I lost 15 bones both times! I was pretyt much only on the slots though cause I don't know how to play anything else really. Any how-tos or just general tips on games?

Blackjack can be a pretty easy game to play and the house doesn't have a real big advantage. Don't ever play slots though, waste of money.

Save the time and effort and just mail the casino a check for what you can afford to lose. The odds favor the house and if you play they'll beat you over time. If you want to gamble learn how to play poker and find a decent game to get into. At least that way you stand a chance of winning if you're better than the people you play against. In a casino you have no chance.

You need to either play blackjack or videopoker. Neither is initially the most exciting or dramatic of games, but they are indeed very fun once you know what you are doing. Blackjack is very easy at first, it takes a little bit of memorization and practice to nail down perfect basic strategy but shouldn't be too hard. Video Poker is pretty much the same thing but you will probably need to spend a little more time memorizing odds tables to maximize your return. Note that on blackjack your return rate (as a % of money you spend) is lower than video poker but variance is also much less. In video poker your return rate is higher, but since much of the return is given back in rare hands (royal, straight flush) there is a fairly high variance until you hit one of those. Of course, that's the appeal of video poker-you can sit down and put through $100 playing $1x5 and suddenly hit a royal flush for $4,000. I've hit 4 royal flushes in my lifetime (all at online casinos) and have known folks who've hit multiple $20,000 royals in one day. Nothing like that for a life-changing experience, but you certainly can't count on it. VP is a bit more addicting but in a social atmosphere I prefer blackjack.

basic strategy for either can be found on google.

Yeah, craps is the game with the highest chance of winning. It's the most "fair" game in the casino, according to my finite mathematics teacher, with a return rate of just under 50%.

Actually, double down on blackjack! Seen it happen and the guy lost. stupid SOB. That what happens when you load up on free alcohol.

Anyway, my tip for you is ... all those fancy casinos you see in las vegas were not built off the backs of winners. Only gamble with what you can afford to lose. For a sobering read search OT for the thread about the guy who saved for 3 years by working as a waiter and then lost I think $10k in like 1 night.

Let It Ride, I've never lost money at a casino playing this game. Its easy to learn and you aren't playing against the house like blackjack and other poker games.

Sorry but your teacher is terribly wrong. Craps bets can have a low house edge, but it depends on the rules and what bet you make. It can be from .2% to 17%. Again, rule-dependent but assuming optimal rules, VP will have an edge of about .1%. Blackjack varies from .01-.5% playing basic strategy (but not card counting) depending hard/soft dealer hits and what you are allowed to double and split on. Card counting, BJ is the only game where you can get a house edge. (although I've been told you can in pai gow poker, but I dont know details on that).

I dont claim to be an expert on odds but I played casinos professionally for a few years online, and have talked to folks who do it professionally at real casinos. BJ is only game I know of where you can beat the house odds over the long run (as long as they dont kick you for counting; AC can't.)

But BJ odds quickly drop once you factor in 6-8 decks. But I guess that's the same as reducing the amount of "free odds" for craps. At 10x free odds, I think the percent edge falls insanely low- the only problem is bankrolling consistant 10x bets behind your pass bet.

Don't play. Over time the house will beat you because the odds are stacked against you, unless you bet big on a winning hand. 😛

My tip:

Get yourself $30 in ones.
Park yourself at a video poker bar, if your casino has one (bar with video poker machines set into the bar).
Feed those ones into the video poker machine slooooowly.
Enjoy free drinks all night.

Seriously, this is the extent of my gambling. I find that I can usually spend a whole night, get completely plastered, and still have cash left over for the 2AM dinner-breakfast changeover buffet, while my friends who were playing Carribean Stud are penniless and begging me for cash for food. 🙂

BJ odds relating to the number of decks should only matter significantly if you are card counting, or taking insurance. True the house edge does goes up but according to my calculator its not more than .2%.

The best tip I can give you is to http://www.blackjack-strategycard.com/blackjack_strategy_&_rules_-_multi_deck.htm

You can usually pick up something like that in the gift shop too, cept its the size of a credit card and fits easily in your wallet. It basically tells you when you should hit, stand, double, split, etc, etc. depending on what card total you have, and what the dealer's face card is. If you follow those rules exactly, the house edge becomes REALLY small.
