when i saw this cube case:
http://www.mountainmods.com/product_info.php?cPath=21_70&products_id=352

it made me wonder if anything out there shaped like a cube could support this idea?

I'm thinking mount one system on one side of the case and another on the opposite side. It would consolidate space and cooling needs/noise. A keyboard/mouse switch could control both systems and most brand name LCDs seem to have multiple inputs so only one monitor is needed.

I'm imagining this is useful to consolidate a home server computer (or dedicated box) and a main pc. anyone ever see something like this?

With the price of something like that compared to the prices of cheap cases, why would you want to? Space saving would be minimal and I would worry about heat.

You could build something or even use SFF motherboards/mini ATX and do it in a regular case.

Yeah, I'd probably get two cases (maybe the Collermaster Mystique 631 as the doors can be changed to open from left or right) and bolt them in a stack or side by side. If you were up to it, you probably could mod a Codegen S-201 (dealsonic.com, etc.) or a YeongYang cube (yycase.com) or the new Lian Li modular cube (review on 3dgameman.com).

I would simply put a swappable enclosure in for the hard drive, and buy two hard drives, one for each configuration. It would be useful for doing different configurations, but not if you needed two complete systems running at the same time.

LoL! And, the story continues... :)

Look, the Mountain Mods U2-UFO Horizon is basically my idea, e.g. I gave the idea for the Horizon to Mountain Mods -- a U2-UFO Opti-1203 with the mobo mounted horizontally!

I guess they didn't want me for a spokesman -- and I don't blame them, or hold any grudges (I've got plenty of notariety as it is)... but, you can think of the Mountain Mods U2-UFO Horizon as the 'VinDSL Special', so I know exactly what it is...

The idea was to mount the mobo horizontally, to accommodate the ever-growing size of air coolers, such as the Tuniq Tower 120 and Scythe Infinity.

To Mountain Mods credit, they started producing the U2-UFO Horizon exactly 10 days after I gave them the idea... These guys rock!!!

Having said that, I had a hard time convincing them of this idea, at first. In our emails, back n' forth, they kept saying they were coming out with a U2-UFO Duality, which was supposed to allow for two separate mobos in the same case.

I told them, yeah, whatever... that's a great idea, but that's NOT what I'm talking about... yada, yada, yada. Eventually, their tunnel-vision subsided, and they got the idea of what I was talking about.

BTW, I've got the emails to prove all this... in case anybody wants to call BS on my claim!

Anyway, I've been too busy to cruise their site lately, so I don't know if they actually ever made the U2-UFO Duality -- but, that's what you're looking for...

If you cannot find it, let me know and I'll kick it into gear... I know somebody else that wants one too ')

Hahahaha!

I don't mean to pick on you, okay, but you 'riggers' are out of your league in this discussion!

Mountain Mods cases are for ppl that want the best, and don't mind paying the price for same. It isn't about getting two $50 cases and holding them together with clothes hangers and duct tape! ;)
