Any car rental places let you choose specific models?

I'm thinking about taking a trip for a couple days and thought it'd be cool to rent a sporty car and have a little fun on the way... the place is only about 3 1/2 hours away so comfort of the car isn't as big of a deal as how it drives, etc...

Anything would probably be better than what I drive.. a cavalier. ;)

Off the topic, but anyone know the best place to rent a sporty car.. ie mustang for a good deal? 2-3 days. Any coupons?

Umm any of them will let you pick from what they have available (assuming you meet the requirements to rent from that class of vehicle).

A specialty rental place will rent you a specific model, but they rent expensive cars so they're expensive to rent. ;)

The places that rent at airports, I think they only let you reserve by class.

They are all full of stuff -
I think a Dodge Neon is considered a standard or medium or full size car.

Correct. At the typical rental place, you can only reserve a car in a particular class, which could include a number of different cars.

Hertz will allow you to reserve a specific model if you choose from their Prestige Class.

That is what I am telling you.
Ask for a medium size car, and get a Neon.
You are going to have to ask for a "super car" or "hyper car" to get a mustang.

1st question,
how old are you.

If your over 25 Hertz may be able to hook you up.

Get the extra insurance.

While it's true you can often only reserve based on class, when actually get to the counter you can usually just ask for a specific model... of course, if they don't have one you are SOL.

The Hertz near me has no Mustangs.

Albany, NY.

On On most rentals the minimum age is 25 without an additional Age Differential Charge, and 21 with an additional Age Differential Charge.

Age Differential Charge Policy

At corporate locations in the United States, Puerto Rico, and St. Thomas Hertz will rent selected car class vehicles (Prestige Collection and some other models excluded) to customers who are age 21-24 with the following per day Age Differential Charge in addition to the normal rental rate.

All states except New York, age 21-24

Economy Car, Compact Car, Intermediate Car, Standard Car, Fullsize Car USD 25.00 per day

Other Car Classes (some models excluded) USD 35.00 per day

In New York, age 21-24

Economy Car, Compact Car, Intermediate Car, Standard Car, Fullsize Car USD 35.00 per day

Other Car Classes (some models excluded) USD 45.00 per day

In the states of New York and Michigan only, Hertz will rent to 18-20 years old with the following per day Age Differential Charge in addition to the normal rental rate.

In New York, age 18-20

Economy Car, Compact Car, Intermediate Car, Standard Car, Fullsize Car USD 51.00 per day

In Michigan, age 18-20

Economy Car, Compact Car, Intermediate Car, Standard Car, Fullsize Car USD 41.00 per day

sometimes there's a special "mustang convertible" rental, or something like that. other than that, you usually get your pick of what they have on the lot at the time.

National's Emerald club will let you pick any vehicle on their emerald isle. Usually a mix of various class SUV's, minivans, intermediates, full sizes. You also bypass the check-in counter. Free to signup.

Hertz would be your best choice. Hertz rents Fords, so you can pick from Jagaurs, Mustangs, and Volvo's & Mazda.

Doubt you will get a GT though as V6 is standard fair in the Mustang pool.
