OK, after going back and forth for a few weeks, I decided to stay with a digital p&s camera, and went with an A80 (Sorry to all the people who responded to my SLR thread). I've been playing around with it a bit, and I started wondering: what do you use the two custom-settings spots on the mode dial for? How are they set up? . I haven't had much of a chance to use the camera yet, so mine are both blank.
And a related question: My girlfriend may end up borrowing this camera when she goes to Spain in a few weeks. This is fine, although I get the feeling that she just wants something to point & shoot, and won't take the time to play with the settings to get the best pictures. Faced with this situation, what would you do to turn it into a "simple-as-possible" point and shoot? Just use the mode-dial presets, or something else? A couple of things I have figured out, from the limited shooting I've done so far:
- AWB doesn't work very well indoors, or so it seems to me. I usually set it to "flourescent" instead
-AiAF sometimes seems to be more trouble than it's worth; I think that if my gf takes the camera with her, I'll turn it off before I give it to her.
-This camera is flash-happy
If I leave the flash on auto, it fires almost all the time.
If I notice anything else, I'll post it. I'll post pics, too, when I finally get some. I'll deffinitely post some if my girlfriend takes the camera with her.
