Any Canadians here?

I've lived in the states for about 5 years and just moved to Canada, BC.

The biggest problem I have against Cananda is that I'm sick of paying stupid 14.5% sales tax.
Thus, I'm planning to buy as much as I can from the states. I just bought a pair of jeans from the states;however, I was told that I have to pay some sales tax. Eh? Is it true?

Some month ago, I read about this Canadian 13 year old boy who received fully funtional AK-47 with bullets off of U.S Ebay (It was supposed to be a baseball bat).
I wonder if he paid sales tax.

If you are bringing it with you when you move then no......... but if you go down to the states or get it mailed up then you will have to pay the taxes.

Cheers,
Aquaman

Research your bloodline and find out about a distant native in your lineage...then you can claim native status and get stuff tax free.

That is what most natives do here who are hardly native 😉

i think the blonde hair is working against me here 😛

If you're bringing it up from the US you can gamble to declare your US purchases or not. Depending how long you stay down there you're allowed a limit before it's taxable. If you lose your gamble the car and all its occupants will be blacklisted and thoroughly checked everytime. If you're not blacklisted you may or may not get checked.

Over the limit, all goods are taxable (not food or else I'd be pissed if they taxed my KK back in the day 😛). But whether or not you pay duty is another issue.

Did you order online? Anything over a value of $20 CDN being imported through mail will be assessed. You will have to pay the PST and GST, and probably brokerage fees. Clothing also has excise tax. If you drove to The States and bought them and stayed for 24 hours, you are entitled $50 CDN tax-free. Bottom line, buy CDN.

Umm...I'm here as a foreign student and that's what bothers me the most. Meaning that I don't get any of those wonderful benefits that Canada offer.

That's the worst thing I've ever heard for a long time. I really think I should've bought it from a Canadian store. Damn...it was an Abercrombie & Fitch jeans which I could've bought it here in Canada.
