Any Californians been to the snow yet?

its horrible out there. Like 20 people have died so far this season from it being so crowded. I fear that if you go, you may never come back.

🙁

Snow Summit -- loads of crowds during the Thanksgiving weekend. Took about 10 to 15 minutes just to get on the lifts. I can only imagine how busy they'll be right now.

Mountain High -- excellent crowd control -- loads of people but little to no wait time for the lifts. Plus, they won't charge holiday prices until tomorrow, AFAIK.

Everywhere else -- I dunno.

RE: Snow
Most of the resorts will have packed man-made snow. Unless it starts raining again, that's what we'll have for the rest of the season. It won't stop me from going again in January, though. 🙂

I am right in the middle of it... I don't go near Mammoth this time of year... June should be a lot better... but conditions are less than ideal. We have had a lot of sun, cold tempatures and not much snow... thats supposed to change this coming week. If you are interested in a backcountry experience, check here Tioga Pass Resort and let me know... I live and work here, and we have a pretty good winter program.

I live in Big Bear about five mintues from Bear and Snow Summit. During the christmas period both prices and crowds will be unreasonable given what you pay for the ticket, $48. I worked at both places in my teens and can say they are not worth the ticket price, go to Mammoth or Tahoe, worth the drive and the money.

i think that's the worse...going on holiday weekend. notffun with lotta people on the slope and waitings

Unfortunately, being a college student really hinders when I can go. Holiday season is always a sure bet of available time! Thanks for the advice all. More will be appreciated too. =)

just got back from June Mountain, conditions were a little less than ideal but it was near empty. I HATE crowds while boarding...

Was at mammoth earlier (thanksgiving) and conditions were great.

Snow at Bear and Summit suck right now, we are expecting a storm on Tuesday, hopefully it will improve then. Best site to check (IMHO) is SnowForecast.com. Left Big Bear today for Christmas, heading back up tomorrow, can't wait to get snowed in 😉

Started snowing last night, still coming down (and more expected tomorrow). All runs are open at Bear and Summit (if you can make it up)
