Any cable techs out there?

I had TXU DSL and although the download speeds where slower 1.2 down/205 up, I never had any problems connecting to any secure or regular web sites.
I decided to change over to TW RoadRunner Cable. Of course the speeds are twice as fast which is great buy I keep getting DNS unable to locate server errors in IE 6 on Windows XP Pro. Other than the change in TCP-IP settings of course there is nothing different. I even have a hard time connecting to Anandtech Subscriber servers. This is really getting annoying. I have tried rebuilding the TCP-IP stacks, I can ping my ISP's Dns and Gateway servers with no problems. Does anyone have a clue as to what is going on? The techs at RoadRunner are useless, no offense if you are one. I'm not sure if this is the appropriate place to post this.

When I first got Road Runner I had a bunch of problems like you are having - spotty DNS name resolution, failure to get an IP from RR DHCP, etc. I spent countless hours on the phone with their 1st and 2nd tier "tech support". Finally they sent a tech out to my house because the only thing they could figure was that the cable modem was bad. Swapped modems, the problem did not go away. Service tech shrugs his shoulders, says "call tech support and tell them what we did", LOL. Finally got a sympathetic tech on the phone who passed me to their 3rd tier support - they did something on their end (didn't say what) and now it's been nearly 5 months without a problem.

There was no problem with my PC or how it was set up - the problem was at RR's end. Good luck!

Yes I'm absolutly sure it's Roadrunner, but I can't get them to admit that there is a problem since they don't know what they are doing most of the time. Thanks for your help!

Hey, I live in Katy too. Where in Katy do you live? My contract stated only 768/128, but I pull 2300/540 all day long, with a free static IP to boot. :) I'd love to get a LAN party together. I haven't been to one in over a year.

Hey, a fellow Katyonian. I thought I was the only one. When I signed up for RR a couple of weeks ago they advertised 2400 down/350 up. I normally, using 2 Wire or DSL Reports bandwidth meters, get 2400 down/350 up during peak hours and from 2800 to 3000 down/ 350 up during off peak. The speed is great! But it has a downside the DNS name resolution and no secure web site hook up sucks. Sometimes I can't get on the subscriber servers at Anandtech which totally sucks. I just got off the phone with tech support again and he told me that it is a known problem and their engineers are working on it furiously. Hopefully they will be able to figure out what the heck is going on with this irritating problem.
By the way I live in the Cinco Ranch area. Glad to know ya! :D

Hey you Katy-dwellers, up until about 3 years ago I lived out that way. My wife worked at the Katy Library and we lived up in Cypress (Fairfield). Time-Warner's service for cable TV was so incredibly horrible I got a satellite dish. Can't even imagine what they're like for data... Here in SE WI where I live now they are not too bad, but I still have the satellite dish.

Ah Milwaukee now is it? My little brother just moved from there to Scottsdale, AZ. He said it snowed alot there but he loved the beer and food.
Yeah they just installed these fiber optic lines in Katy and are now offering this new cable internet. Not to beat a dead horse but like I said, great speed so far, but they definately have some issues to deal with before it is ready for prime time.

Yep, up north now. Beer and food are great. Got hardly any more snow than Katy this year. Last year there was a LOT!

Cinco Ranch is nice, we looked around there before deciding on Fairfield. Fairfield had a better commute to my job in the Westchase area of Houston, and was a straight shot down Katy-Hockley Road to the library in old Katy for my wife.

It's a small, small, world.

Yes, it is a small world. You wouldn't recognize Katy now that it's growing so fast. You know it's getting bad when you have to move out of the suburbs to get some peace and quite. Maybe farther west or something. Anyway, be seeing ya around the boards. :D
