Any busted 7900GT news?

Lots of people (including myself) were having problems with their faulty 7900GTs due to a common bug in them. I haven't been keeping track of peoples' progress on these. How's it going for everyone?

After two bunk 7900GT EE's from XFX, they spent a couple weeks personally on my card and I have a *beautifully* working one now. Anyone else had such luck?

i had a bad eVGA 7900gt

i RMAd it to newegg after owning it about for 3 months and of course my model was discontinued so newegg gave my $300 back. i then waited for the x1950xtx to come for about 2 months, but then the 7950gt came out (and was only $300) so i wasn't spending any more cash and getting better performance.

and, i also got 3 free games with my 7950gt, and now my step up plan is hopefully within the time the G80 comes out.

so, having a bad 7900gt actaully paid off for me 🙂

Sweet! What games did you get with it? I got an original 7900GT, but I'm insanely happy with it. Gonna do a voltmod today to see if I can't beat out a GTX by leaps and bounds. 🙂

I wish XFX offered a step-up program. 🙁

I got Hitman Blood Money with the card right away. I never was interested in this game but it actually is damn good.

I also will be recieving Half Life 2: Episode One pretty soon, and Dark Messiah Might and Magic when that is released.

I find it funny that you were worried about your 7900GTs dying, yet you can't wait to do a voltmod 😛

Lifetime warranty! I wasn't worried about them dying so much as they were DOA. If you haven't been keeping track, since the 7900s came out, they were bad. Nvidia screwed up on the memory clocking or such, so the majority of them would artifact on their very first use. Incredibly common problem. But they've got it taken care of now. As far as I know, all the resellers (XFX, eVGA, etc) are selling the new batch of good 7900s now.

Robkas, sweet deal you got with all the games. HL2: Ep1 is awesome. I played the demo of Messiah, but it murdered the card. They said they have tons of optimizations to do before release... I hope they do. 🙂 I can run HL2 at 1600x1200, 4xaa, 8xaniso at 80fps average, but Messiah would run at a steady 40fps on 1280x960 2xaa 2xaniso. Bad bad bad!

Great tut! Also have your voltmod thread bookmarked (have since I got my first bad 7900gt 🙂). I added a reply to your voltmod thread... mind replying when you have a sec? Thanks fuzz!

i purchased a recertified eVGA 7900GT a couple weeks back, so far so good. it's using samsung memory chips, i think eVGA replaced those chips with infineon memory in there newer AR models(someone correct if i'm wrong)...well anyways 630/1800mhz with the 1.4v mod and a NV5 rev.3 silencer

I purchased two 7900GTs when they were on sale last month at CircuitCity.com for US$220 each. This is the XFX UDF7 model with a clock of 470 MHz, and with stock cooling fan.

So far they have been great. Have one clocked to 562/1604, which should be about it on this particular model since I believe XFX limited the memory clock to 1600 on this model.

Yup, some of the old 7900's had problems because of the Samsung memory. Changing to Infineon memory fixed those problems with the old models, with eVGA anyways.

I have a Msi 7900GT that is 6months old and have never had any issues with the card.. they don't make my model anymore but it's core will do 590 and ram 1742... almost 10,000 3DMark 05 score without a vmod.. funny thing is i have the the pen to do it with but got cold feet..

I have an eVGA 7900 GT, the KO edition. Have had it since early July, and no problems yet. Used it with stock cooling for about 2 months, then got a Zalman VF700. Overclocked a little bit, but I bought it mainly for cooling.
