I know this is hardly a question for "computer junkies" (yes i am one two and i probably spelled it wrong too...) but i was woundering if you all had any suggestions for a good guitar. i would like to spend less than $200. i want an acustic cutaway with electrical outputs. Thanks in advance... lemme know if there's any questions.

If you have a friend who knows guitars, have him/her help you pick out a good used one. The most important things are good tone (of course) and that it plays well up and down the neck. That means it should have a good action and intonation (playing in tune on all strings on all frets). Once you put in the work to learn how to play, the instrument has to be able to give you the reward of the music, or you'll lose interest, or at least be very pissed.

A good used instrument will hold its value forever. A cheap bad guitar will always be a piece of junk that is overpriced when new, no matter how cheap it is.

Music is a gas. Hope you find the right one. :)

ummm... you won't find one for $200. You'll need to spend at least $700 for a good acoustic electric. At which point I would recommend an ovation or a takemine or maybe a seagull

If this is your first guitar I suggest just picking one up either used at a pawn shop or used musical instrument outlet cheap. Buy one at sears or JCPenney or something, just til your sure you want to follow through with playing. Then once your good and going and sure you want to stick with it, go buy a better one.

My first Guitar & Amp was bought with green stamps. I played the frets off of it before I bought a new Ibanez and finally a Gibson Les Paul SG.

Cutaway acoustic with outputs? Um, good luck trying to find one for under $200. Maybe if you're SUPER lucky you can find one at a garage sale cause the person won't know what they're selling.

There's a ton of guitar threads in this section, maybe look at a few of them. First of all, you may want to get a decent but plain acoustic. Something that sounds good but without any extra bells so you're not stuck with something expensive later. Then, if you want to, you can get something more expensive later.

I wouldn't blindly buy a guitar over the internet. If you really found an amazing deal, I'd at least make sure to go to a guitar shop and see if they have that guitar or a similar model so you can see how it plays. Like Harvey said, having a friend who knows would be very nice to have a long.

I personally play an Ibanez (just electric though) and I really like it. My friend who is godly at guitar also has one. The GENERAL comments I read about Ibanez's is VERY nice fretboard (easy/good to play), kinda bad eletricals, hard to tune (??), average pickups. Not sure if these are really true but I seem to see those most about Ibanez guitars. But I'm satisfied with mine so that's all that matters to me.

In addition, search the off-topic for guitar threads. I remember many of them in the past few weeks. Also you could check out the forums at Harmonycentral.com.

A guy that was helping me find an electric for my son, suggested the Takamine G230 for $179.99 or the EG230 for $219.99. He owns two Les Pauls, but loves to screw around with that G230. He helped his girlfriend pick it out for her daughter as a birthday gift. He loves the sound A LOT!

I got my wife a G-330B a few years ago and can vouch for the awesome sound richness of it. That $179.99 G230 price seems pretty damn good for that kind of quality guitar.

Edit: $299.00 to snag the cutaway EGC530C.

Since there are some guitar freaks in this thread, what is a dobro?

Went to Alison Krauss concert last weekend & heard one that blew me away. Jerry Douglas was playing it.

dobro is specifically a Gibson (they copyrighted the name dobro) acoustic guitar that has one of those large resonating metal circles where the soundhole is suppose to be. A more common name is resophonic guitar, those types of guitars are usually played on a stand and horizontally, usually with a slide
