What's it look like in there? I think there are a few review sites that have opened up their test cubes and reported what they found. Take pictures!

That doesn't make much sense considering how easy the G4 is to open.. I haven't found a comparible PC case yet. And that wasn't the first Apple case to be simple to open. Even my 6100 opens with just a pop of two tabs. Not to mention later ones like the 8600 with swing out sides and whatnot.

well, i guess talking about it wont get me banned. I hear they are powerfull, but i havent seen any proof of it my self.
On the bottom there is a handle, you push it in a bit and it springs out so you can pull out the "core" (like the nukes in movies) and you get the most crampacked frightening "mass" of components hanging there from the handle. The slot DVD open; the ATi vid card; a place for a little more ram, the video ports out the bottom; they did make the power supply external though. The on button is a light sensitive job that works thru the case. In the center of it is about a 3 inch square of highly open heat sink fins, attacthed to the processor and the hard drive, the top of the case has holes so heat can rise over those fins and out the top. I heard alot of peep's say the cube's burst into flames. The techs deliberatly blocked those holes, and ran the thing with dvd going and other junk to see if they could get it to (at their boss's order). We even had a few mac heads came in back and where tryin to help em see if it would. they never actually did get the cube to go, but a few days later one of em came in with a hd in their g4 tower that had visible scorched some component on the circuit board of the HD.Any body else seen the cubes inside? ANY Body seen them actually burst in flames? any mac people here at this forum???

I've seen the inside of the cubes because my friend does on site support for a Mac store. I will ask him about the overheating thing, sounds interesting.

I've heard of the lucite cracking, but not flaming. ^_^

I've seen pictures of the guts on apple's site, and other mac pages, but never opened one myself. We have mainly G3s and G4s here.

g4 cubes think taking a PC AND craming everything into as tight a space as possible, just like a nuke or somthing from a cheasy sci fi movie

<< ahem... THIS IS A PC ONLY FORUM!! >>

I hope you are kidding :)

General Hardware covers anything computer related. Many of us, by choice or by force or to earn a living, have to deal with things outside the little PC universe.

You should try a Mac sometime, I always hated the little monsters, but since I happened upon a free one a while ago, I can see the appeal (aside from mine being free :))

MULE you gotta get longer ears on your icon. Redwingsguy you bet they wiped the mac people out in the last "clone" wars, with technology like that mac cube, I've converted alot of goobers who wanted expensive easy computers to our Dark Side till I left comp usa and comqrap behind, i like new comqrap's but not their laptop's and not for me, and i hate repairing 'em

It would actually be kinda nice to have a computer in your room that doesn't sound like a frickin' vacuum cleaner... ;)

Are you guys sure it's not the gay colors that apeal you? Do G4s even come in those fruity colors?

Oh come on guys... macs are boring. Where would you be without fiddling and replacing all the bits? And your PC makes a noise for a reason; it is to show everybody how damn powerful your beastie is. I had to sit on my PC once to stop it taking off. What? You don't believe me?- how do you think a helicopter works?

ok, here's my 2 cents. The Macs and PCs both have thier place. Macs are much easier to use and configure for simple tasks. PCs can do a few more things than the Macs (although this may and probably will change with OS X). PCs are cheaper in most cases. Administering a Mac network is far easier than a PC network. I've been repairing and installing both for the last 3 1/2 years.

I haven't seen one up close, but looking at the specs and what I've seen from pictures I think they put way too much stuff into way to small of an area. For not being all that upgradable they're charging an awful lot of money for it. I think you can still get a comparable G4 tower cheaper. I think it's supposed to appeal to the people that are concerned with what it looks like (and how much space it takes up - could be a plus) rather than what's inside. I've got a G4 450, but even if I didn't I wouldn't think about getting a Cube.
