I want some protein shakes and supplements. I often don't have time to cook meals so I figured I'll just drink on the go. What's a good brand to try that has lots of proteins?

What reputable online retailer can I go to that sells them?

optimum nutrition is the best (tasting) protein you'll find out there.

I like to shop at bulknutrition.com. They usualy have good prices and great service.

Haven't tried the chocolate, but the vanilla flavor that walmart carries is quite a bit better tasting than optimum's vanilla. Optimum has 1-2g more protein per serving, though. I got my last 10lbs of protein powder from vitamin shoppe:

Why is it that protein shakes taste horrible?

Also, how many grams of protein does a human need a day?

Ideally protein shakes are used to ADD protein to an already balanced, plentiful diet. If you are not eating correctly (AND ENOUGH!) to begin with, then you're shooting yourself in the foot.

I've found Optimum Nutrition's protein shakes to be best. I favor the vanilla. 2 scoops in 10 ozs of skim milk and guzzled down three times a day. Buy a shaker cup. Stirring doesn't do it and using a blender is a pain in the ass.

A good guideline/goal is 1 gram of protein per pound of lean body weight (subtract your BF% from your total weight to figure your lean body weight).

However, try to achieve most of that goal with real food. Tuna is great for someone who can't cook. Also, buy a grill and grill up a bunch of chicken breasts in advance, then put them in a container in the fridge. They make great snacks and meals.

Since heart disease doesn't run in my family, I also favor beef, and lots of it.

This man has some good advice. You can get a pack of about 10-12 chicken breasts, unskinned, for about $7 from Walmart or the grocery store. Or if you like the back part too, about $8-9. Or pickup a whole cooked chicken from Walmart/Costco for like $4.50.

Are you looking for straight protein or more of a meal replacement shake (high protein w/ carbs, fats)?
The best meal replacement shake I've found is the white-box Met-RX Original chocolate, packets come to be about $1 each, maybe a little bit more. Very thick and tasty, its literally like drinking pudding before its solidified.

Drinking just whey shakes is good after a workout and maybe right when you wake up, but it digests too fast to make it a good snack throughout the day. A protein blend is better for other times.

I get all my supplements online at dpsnutrition

FYI: here is the best deal I've found for ON 100% whey protein:
VitaGlo

$44.95 for a 10lb bag, no shipping for orders > $50, no tax in TN (and other states)

They have some pretty good deals on other products, too. I've ordered from them a couple of times, and they ship really fast.

best website to buy stuff from IMO is 1Fast400.

they charge a flat $5 shipping, and he's located in NC which takes 2 days to get to MD for me. his prices are great as well. check it out.

I personally like the designer whey better than optimum nutrition.
