Besides the ones mentioned already.

Hound Dog Taylor (if you can get past the $12 guitar he used to play)
Tinsley Ellis
Leslie West (Yeah, from Mountain, he does straight blues now)
David Hole (If you can get by his voice)
Five Horse Johnson (rock driven)
Monster Mike Welsh (He opened up B.B King's House of Blues at the age of 13, I saw him when he was 15 years old, sat with him, his mom, and his band at a bar. Too bad the band no longer exists)

I think the JM3 Blues Day CD can convert ANYONE into a John Mayer fan. I think everyone should listen to Mayer's version of Voodoo Chile. Unbelievable.

You can entertain yourself by looking a little bit into the history of the Blues, down in Mississippi, Dockery Farm, Highway 61, etc. There's quite a lot of info on the web, and some people who've studied up on it have put ip web sites.

Also, here's a great DVD where they look into the background of Robert Johnson, and visit his hangouts, and interview people who were close to him. Your local public library might have it for you free:

The search for Robert Johnson
