Please don't flame me for even mentioning the banjo. :D Just wondered if there were any fellow computer geeks out there who loves bluegrass music or plays the banjo. Found an old banjo in the grandparents attic and I've been playing it now for about a year, and I even started taking lessons a few months ago. (And let me say, it ain't easy finding someone who gives banjo lessons.) I'm a music lover at heart, but I've never played a instrument too much before. I'm beginning to realize just how difficult it is to READ music.

I love listening to bluegrass, too. And I recently bought a 3-CD Banjo Hall-of-Fame collection from Time Life that I LOVE. My favorite track is Heartbreak Mountain by The Stonemans. It is simply amazing. I can only dream of someday playing that well.

I don't know any banjo players except for Bela Fleck from Bela Fleck and the Flecktones. I love their music and would love to hear some reccomendations on other great banjo players!

I actually played the banjo for the first time at a family gathering (I normally play guitar). It was a fun instrument to play, but I only learned about 6 or so chords.

Bluegrass is the bomb.
I think lots of people think it's "Country Music".

I like a little country, but mostly old stuff (50's, early 60's)--
no thank you to the "look at me, I'm the sh!t" songs.

I still have my old banjo. Had it out a couple of months ago and picked "Cripple Creek" after a couple of warmups. Never was very good, but could hold my own when pickin with friends.

Yeah, bluegrass is awesome. Grew up with it in Kentucky. I still prefer Flatt and Scruggs over all of them. Curtis McPeake was good as were the Stanley Brothers and Tommy Jackson. My favorite from The Stonemans was Orange Blossum Special Breakdown. Had the opportunity to meet Vernon "Buddy" Sperlock once. That dude is phenominal.

Currently taking Guitar classes at Old Town School of Folk in Chicago and it's sooo much fun. They do offer banjo and I may end up in them once I complete the Guitar courses. If you're in Chicago check it out.
