Hows about stuff right now, anything in particular to look for? Im talking about things that are gonna go faster longer better ect. I hear theyve got 45nm CPUs, yes? In the mobile sector do they make a difference and how do you tell which CPUs are which? Hows about batteries, anything special/noteworty? Screens? Hows about GPUs? Is there even one respectable GPU for intel laptops that doesnt add another 100$ and eat your battery? Not necessarily for gaming, but itd be nice if it functioned even for basic windows tasks (from what I know intel IGPs cant even run movies properly)
Not sure if I should be in the market for a laptop yet...Id be interested in a desktop replacement for around 750$, Max 1000$ (I dont know what a realistic budget looks like quite yet). I dont know if Id want a 15 or 17", but Im thinking maybe the larger size for the full keyboard and screen. This would actually be replacing an older 2.6GHz P4c (Northwood) computer and would be used primarily for business use and photo/web design and marketing. The reason for the laptop is pretty much just to move software around. That crap is so insanely massively overpriced itd be far less expensive to buy a mobile computer than to buy multiple copies of software (Adobe CS3 anyone? HOLY SHIZZ WTF?!)
I do realize even a 2GHz dual core will probably work faster/better than the old 2.6 but if Im gonna do this I want it to be worthwhile...as in something thats going to run anything that comes out in the next few years (that 2.6 still runs pretty good). That also means the laptop has to actually last that long as well.
Again primarily has to run good and fast, secondary it would be nice to have some mutimedia capability just in case I want to take it on a vacation and watch a movie or hook it up to a TV/projector or something...and battery life while important isnt a major concern. Portability and weight will be more important. I dont think this thing will be used "on the go" so much as it will just be taken from point a to point b where it should usually have a wall outlet avaiable.
Oh and potentially connecting to another monitor...might not be a bad idea. Even 17" is kinda small, which is part of why Im considering 15" as well. Theyre cheaper lighter and more portable and if Im getting a small screen anyway...only thing is I dont want to have to carry extras like a keyboard ect so thats where the size issue is at. Anyway back to the point, having proper connections for larger screens/resolutions (Im thinking up to like 20x15, at least 16x12) if I want to use a standard monitor.
Never owned a laptop though so no idea what to expect...let alone what to look for. I can compare prices and specs, thats about it. So my question is a heck of a lot longer/more complicated than I origioanlly planned. Anyone got any tips/tricks/info or advice? Thanks for reading this far, and a cookie for you if you can help me out
Oh and hows about the little extras like bluetooth, cameras/mics, wireless, and those expansion port thingies? Ive seen laptops with expansion ports that are then taken by the wireless...WTF? Thats stupid. Id want built in wireless. And whats the point of built in bluetooth? Would that work for a mouse (I dont think Id want to get stuck with a touch pad for work)?
