Any bicyclists in here who wear contacts?

Even with sunglasses with huge lenses, whenever I ride my bike with contacts they dry out horribly from the wind and I go half blind.

Anyone else have this problem? I wear Acuvue 2 for Astigmatism. All my past contacts have done the same thing, which is why I don't wear them that much anymore since I bike every day.

I don't wear contacts but my eyes do tear quite a bit when going down hill at high speed (I've hit almost 50mph on my road bikes). To combat this I bought a pair of Specialized sunglasses that are vented at the edges and shaped to keep the wind off your eyes. They do a better job than regular sunglasses anyway.

I also picked up a pair of Performance brand sunglasses with interchangeable lenses for $20. They also do a fairly good job of keeping my eyes from tearing up and I like the amber and clear lenses for early morning rides to work when there isn't much light.

The best solution (well, except those first-world-war plane pilot... glasses let's call them this way) would be some fitting sunglasses. If you can find something like Neo's in Matrix (at the end of the movie), you could try those.
I don't use contact lenses, but some better fitting sunglasses reduced somewhat the wind in the eyes area.

yeah, maybe some old-style oakleys, or perhaps make a more cost effective seal with the use of duct tape.

I know guys who do this and don't have problems, and some who do....seems to be an individual thing.

If your Rx isn't too bad, I'd look into getting some glasses made with prescription lenses. I've had some for a few years and they're 100% worth the cash.

I got mine from Zeal Optics

The sunglasses that I have are of this style: http://www.campmor.com/webapp/wcs/store...y?productId=39211574&memberId=12500226

These are NOT the ones that I have, but the lens configuration is the same except mine's a two-piece lens (plastic divider in the middle), and they seem to hug my eyes pretty well, yet they still get dry. In fact, it seems my eyes get dry regularly with contacts; I've even trained myself to yawn on command to rewet them, but yawning is impossible while exercising, like on a bike.

I would go for Rx sunglasses, but I might as well save some money and just use my regular presciption glasses then.

I don't have a problem with sunglasses; without, they'll get dry after a few miles.

Mine get rediculously dry after about a minute. 🙁

I ride with contacts and rarely tear up. I'm using Smith Mainline glasses.

I've hit 52, 53 mph on my road bike without any issues. I really think it's about the design of the glasses and how they fit on your head.

Do your eyes dry up without glasses? What contacts do you wear?

I don't have that much of a problem on my motorcycle, but then I'm behind a full-face helmet. I try to blink a lot though. I'm trying to find a pair of glasses I can wear under my helmet that are kinda like yours (and cups around the eyes to help keep out wind) but with like titanium arms or something so they can bend and be shoved between my head and the padding.

I wear acavue advances.

you need new contact.

Try Acuvue's Oasys contacts... they are a lot better than my old acuveu in terms of feeling dry.
Ditto.

I use Oakley M-Frames (the silly "Pro" model without hinges), but more for dust which makes my eyes tear up. I wear gas-permeable (hard) contact lenses, which make my eyes tear more in general, but I don't typically get the sensation of dryness.
