I just took my first long ride of 2014 around the city on my Cannondale. It feels great. I thought winter storage would affect the bike, but I didn't notice any difference. I'm still going to do a tune up and calibration before the next ride. I'll probably ride the Ocean Parkway bike lane next time.

This is my bike:

Oh hell yeah!!

Yesterday, I did a 1/2 hour on my Cannondale Adventure 3. I am looking to hit 2 hours for 20 or so miles today.

Great weather for cycling!!

Also, I look forward to the 5 Boro bike tour on May 4th in NYC.

You aren't a real roadie unless you shave your legs and ride outside the designated bike lanes.

Which one is it? Am I genuinely "anti-bike" (The War on Bikes?), or did I post something in a bike thread that both questions bicyclists' masculinity and suggests they shouldn't be on the road, just to see who is dumb enough to take the bait? If it is the latter, do you feel there is a reason that I was able to predict an over-reaction?

I've been itching to get the bicycles out of the basement. Been a bit too much rain so the local rail-trail is a mess. Maybe this weekend.... fingers crossed

Ah, the troll is proud of itself.

You are anti-bike, an asshole, and you support policies that increase diabetes, heart disease, and children dying in car accidents.

Congrats, you are what's wrong with America.

Go fuck yourself, you stupid piece of shit.

You remind me of a wounded animal, instinctively lashing out at anything that moves, to prevent further injury. Except your wound is only your pride.

I 100% support you doing whatever activity you need to in order to combat that high blood pressure

Also, I had sex with your mother in exchange for currency.

Edit: and FYI preslove, I make similar posts in every Harcadio thread I come across, since he actually started out at ATOT as a real troll, and he deserves it.

I'm deeply in live with preslove.

I commute by bike, take my kids to and from school on bike, and ride for fun, preferably on a mtn bike. It's great living somewhere that is always bicycle season.

I've been mountain biking since September last year. Bought myself a 29er hard tail and I've really been enjoying it. Still have a couple road bikes but haven't been riding them much.

 Why would winter storage affect it? Were you storing it outside? I've had bikes sit for a decade and still work perfectly the first time out. Worst case is you need to replace the tires after a few years has past but a few months? No way.

Looking to buy a pair of bikes for myself and the wife. We are in our 50s and in good shape for our advanced age. We recently checked the local bike shop and they recommended two GIANT made bikes with road wheels/tires (the trails around here are blacktop) for about $500 each.

Good deal/ bad deal? Recommendations? Thanks ...

Holy crap guys.

No one wants to want to ride their bicycle. No one wants to ride their bike. No one wants to ride their bicycle. No one wants to ride it where they like.

I need to get my gf a bike. I haven't gone on any long rides & only have been commuting since we've started dating last year.

Not a huge enthusiast, but even I can't wait till I can start taking it out... exercise and quick errands. Don't like starting the car for quick trips - bad for the battery, etc.

comparison shop at bikesdirect.com ... of course you'd just have to put it together yourself (front wheel, seat, handlebar, brakes), which I as a noob figured out in about an hour for 2 bikes. The biggest thing is adjusting the brakes, but there's Youtube for that.

I'd recommend a flat bar roadbike. It's a whole lot faster than a mountain bike, but you don't have to be bent over or move your hands to brake, like a road bike.

I had a local shop put my bikesdirect flatbar road bike together for $50. It was actually a great deal because they trued the wheels (the bike mechanic said that they definitely needed trueing, btw). I like the bike, but I think I want to upgrade the brakes. They constantly need to be readjusted.

Can anyone recommend a good android app for tracking distance/speed/elevation and other stats for a bike trip?

Strava and Ride With GPS ("RWGPS") are the two main players. MapMyRide sucks ass and only losers use it ever.

I spent most of the winter on a trainer and on a treadmill. My training really trailed off starting in February, and I was really worried about lost gains from last year. Then I took my first ride outside a couple weeks ago and grabbed several 2nd places on segments in my area, as well as set several PR's on others. Second time out, I got a new KOM ... gonna be a good season :)

Won't be able to do any MTB'ing though until the trails dry out, which is usually early May at best :(

I was thinking more of a hybrid personally. I used to have a road bike but much prefer a wider tire ... but not the size of a mountain bike. I live in FL so we have few hills and want the ability to ride (at least temporarily) in gravel as required.

What brands/models do you recommend?
