Any benefits of having 3 CD-ROM drives?

I just put in an Acer 40X CD-ROM drive into my computer that already had a Pioneer DVD-ROM drive and a Lite-On 24X CD-RW. The main reason I did this was because I thought I would get faster seek times and I wouldn't get disconnected that much from games like Starcraft. I have a higher chance of being disconnected when playing the game from the DVD drive than the CD-RW drive. So I went ahead and put in the 40X drive to see if I could get better results. Any opinions, pros, cons, etc? Thanks for any input.

i really dont see how cd speed would have anything to do with you getting disconnected durring starcraft. From what i remember of starcraft-- you could actualy take the cd out durring game play becuase everything is loaded into ram. Youre getting disconnected becuase of you connection most likely-- (using dial up?)..
Still- a 40x cd-rom shouldnt really perform that much different than your dvd drive, both should be way overly adequate for star craft.

I'm on cable modem. I didn't really see the difference either, but I thought I'd give it a shot. In another thread, someone said that the Pioneer DVD drives were slower at ripping and/or data transfer (for CloneCD). Well, now that I have it in, I guess I'll leave it in and give it a trial period. Thanks for your reply rallispec :)

I only have a CDRW in my machine at the moment, I used to have a second CDROM drive but I took it out because I needed the space for another HDD. On the rare occasion when I want to burn a CD I just rip it to the hard drive first.

I don't see the advantage of having 3 CD-ROM drives.

yea, i have a cd-rom, cd-rw, and a dvd-rom, but nothign really special about having them. i just have the cd-rom cuz i don't wanna end up breaking either of the other drives from normal reading usage. unfortunately, my burner just died. my 24x should be arriving shortly =)

CDRW drives are so cheap nowadays, I wouldn't care if the my CDRW drive died because of over usage, in fact it would give me a good reason to upgrade!

Thanks for the replies guys. I'll just keep it in for a few days and see how it goes. It kinda looks ugly in front of the case with all those drives! :p

I have 3 CDROM drives but my reasons for having them are as follows:

Plextor Ultraplex 40max: GOD like DAE capabilities, performance in DAE better than any drive I have ever used. Virtually no glitches over the course of a disk. Most likely to read scratched and pitted disks.

Yamaha 2100S CD-rw: it's a CD-rw

Pioneer DVD-305S: it's a DVD.

My situation is different than most (notice they're all SCSI)
