Can it be done? Any benefit to using ATA66 cables on ATA33 mobo? HD is ATA66, but mobo only has ATA33. Heard that the 80 wire ATA66 cables were the way to go.

The extra wires on the ata/66 help to prevent cross-talk. It helps get the ata/66/100 speeds, it may improve the stability of the ata/33. At worst, it wont hurt anything....

A ATA66 cable can help clean up the signal even on ATA33. I seem to remember that IBM had some good pics on their site. Not sure that the problem is really crosstalk. As I remember, the trailing edge of the signal tends to 'ring'. Instead of a clean on to off transition there kinda like bouncing. The extra grounds eliminate this.
