Any benefit in buying RAM faster than MOBO supports?

I purchased Patriot Viper 16GB PC4-27200 3400MHz memory since it was on sale. After installing it, I realized that the fastest speed by MOBO supports is 2133MHz (HP Pavilion 560). Is there any benefit in using this high spec RAM? I hoping I didn't pay a premium for nothing.

Depending on the mobo, you could O/C the RAM.
If you have a mobo that doesn't have this feature, then, you can use this RAM on your next board that has O/C'ing of the RAM possible. :)

Yeah, aside from possibly AlienWare and other boutique builders, most OEM rigs are limited to Jedec-standard DRAM speeds. All of the "performance" RAM requires XMP (overclocking) support.

It's a HP OEM rig so definitely no support for XMP. What a rookie mistake on my part. I haven't purchased an OEM rig in over 10 years and forgo about the limited functionality.
