Any benchmarks out there that show dual core processors performing better in games?

I'm just wondering how much better the dual processors are performing in games vs. a single core processor. I know this depends on if the game is multi-threaded or not. Would like to see a benchmark for a multi threaded game running dual core proc. vs. single core proc.

Clock for clock they don't ..

However, you can do other stuff in the background , and manage to play at a level not possible with a single core..

I kinda doubt it; those increases are probably just due to the recent Nvidia drivers that are supposed to offer optimizations for dual-core/SMP systems.

yup they are.

and it boosts X2 performance to about on par with the FX series in Quake 4...

now if only Raven/id cared enough to make their engine multithreaded, which they apparently don't. So we gotta wait until Unreal Engine 3.0 for the real benefits!

it's also interesting, i wonder if other companies, could make sound drivers that take advantage of multi-processing. like that Havok physics engine? its software and licensed by lots of companies. Epic Games licensed some 'Reality' physics engine for themselves though...well not really licensed i think they bought them out. That had to be multithreaded.

btw those drivers are the reason i went for an Opteron 170 over a 14X series... i only play Quake 4 :)

I was under the impression the doom engine actually was multithreaded, it's just that it's graphics card limited so dual core doesn't actually help.
