I have posted a series of threads in the MOBO forum and elsewhere for recommendations on building a gaming system anchored on the nforce4 ultra chipset and GEFORCE 7800GT GPU.
Well, budget concerns and indecisiveness on my part have delayed my upgrade, largely due to not being comfortable or totally impressed by any of the nforce4 ultra MOBOs available...and the seemingly endless array of problems that users report for nforce4 MOBOs, even from reputable manufacturers.
Well the Ati X1900 is now upon us, and supposedly RD580 MOBOs should start hitting the market in the coming months...I may wait to upgrade, now anchoring my system on an RD580 MOBO and ATI X1900 GPU instead.
The problem is, there is no certainty that the RD580 will unseat the nforce4 ultra chipset as the MOBO foundation of choice for gamers.
A quick search across the websites for ASUS, MSI and other MOBO manufacturers doesn't show any of them advertising or listing specs on RD580.
So what's the scoop...worth waiting at this point...I know the common attitude is that if you wait until the next tech innovation, the next one is always right around the corner, and you could get stuck in a perpetual loop of waiting...I usually jump in when cost matches performance value...however, my perception of nforce4 ultra is that it may not be worth skipping for the next best thing.
Thoughts?
