Any Bass Guitar Players out there?

Tiamat

I read that I have to "tighten" the truss rod. This meaning turning the allen wrench clockwise i think. My strings are too high off the fret board and make it real tough to play.
They are 2mm off the 8th fret when I hold down the string on the 24th fret. Supposedly .5mm is more acceptable?

Am I doing the right thing first of all.

The truss rod doesnt seem to want to budge. Im not putting a lot of strength into it because this is the first time i have operated on an instrument and I dont want to break it.

Any advice?

I just have a beginner bass.

Kramer Baretta 5 String
The truss rod cover is on the front of the heatstock. Ive seen pictures where it is on the backside of the heatstock...

I have untuned and shoved aside the E,A, and D strings in order to get to the truss rod.

Thanks for your help if you are able!

BTW one of the resources i was reading is:

Uh... I wouldn't recommend adjusting it if you're a noob.

Well, I know its only supposed to be a quarter turn adjustments. Im just not sure how much strength im supposed to supply to the allen wrench..

Im just a bass noob. Ive played Piano, Pipe Organ, Cello, for many years, but thats another story. 😛

I play guitar and I've adjusted my truss rod before, so I have no experience with bass, but I'm sure it's similar.

Would this help?

LOL according to that guide, my bass is perfect and i should touch it. Maybe i should just quit complaining and keep practicing 😛

But none of that experience really helps with adjusting the truss rod in a bass, right? I would probably take it to a local shop and ask if they'll let you watch while they adjust it.
