Any ATOT'ers overcome an addiction?

Four days smoke free here. Not much yet, but I think I have the will to finally kick the habit this time. Ex-smokers or anyone who kicked an addiction, whats your best advice?

🙂 To a healthier life!

A certain eating disorder I'm embarrassed to say. Once I promised my girlfriend I wouldn't do it anymore, I honestly stopped cold turkey. Almost a year now.

Don't ever treat yourself to a cigarette.

Ever. Honestly, even if you have been smoke free for 2 years and you think ya know what, I think I deserve one and only one, don't.

be stronger than your urges...

quit cold turkey and managed fine here.

the fact that you want to quit is the first step, after that just don't give in to buying or bumming any. the first month was the worst for me. been smoke free for over 2 years now

just talk to yourself everytime you feel weak and remind your brain that you are in controll, not your cravings...

Thats good advice.
Pretend you're a non-smoker.
Like me. I'm a non-smoker, so ya know what? I dont smoke. Never, not even one. I dont have to worry about it becoming a habit because I dont do it. I dont think in terms of "just one" cuz I know I wont ever touch them at all. And thats where I think a lot of smokers fail. They think of themselves as smokers who are trying desperately to quit. Dont do that. Visualize yourself as a person who does not smoke.
As for treatment, do like me. Chew gum.
LOTS of gum.

Been addicted in spending more and more $$$ in computer equipment for as long as I remember 🙂

But, good stuff on the quitting plans... keep it up!!

I wore the strongest patch for 7 days. This enabled me to kick the actual cigarette smoking habit. Then, not having touched a cigarette for 7 days, riding out the nicotine withdrawal was easy.

I chewed gum a lot for about 2 weeks to keep busy, and then I was over it completely. It's been 6 years now.

Try to do other things too, like take up jogging, working out, working on a car or something else to take your mind off things.

I quit smoking on January 1 2005 because I didn't have cigarettes at home anymore and I was too lazy (and it was actually freezing outside) to go get some.

Then I forgot about it. I tried to get back in 1.5 month later but I've been disgusted after the first third of the first cigarette... Then I forgot again about it and here I am, more than 1 year smoke-free.

Ok, I now have regular panic attacks... but hell, It's funny !

Way to go man, forget about it (but remember how bad it smells)

ask Vegitto, he overcame his addiction of senseless masturbation on March the 7th...but it changes on a daily basis if you know what i mean 😉
sorry for going off topic, but cold turkey is the best remedy for such an addiction as yours 🙂

Masturbation is an addiction like breathing is an addiction.
