Any mods, do me a favor, if your gonna lock one of my threads, at LEAST tell me why! I think my last thread was completely fine, as such equipment cant be bought illegally. You need permits out the wazooey to even hold on of the items in question.

 

Yeah, but what legitimate use can you have for a silencer? And you're asking the wrong people. All we're going to do is trash talk your love of firearms.

Anyway, what are you going to use a silencer for? Why does your gun need to be fired quietly?

Legal restrictions on silencers in the US are similar to those of machine guns with one major difference. The supply of legal machineguns was frozen by a change in federal law in 1986 but silencers and some other weapons were not included in the ban. That means that most people who can pass an extensive criminal background check and get permission of local authorities can legally purchase or manufacture silencers. One part of this legal process is the payment of a $200 fee to the federal government for a stamp that validates the legality of the silencer on the ownership documents.

What do i want one for? To have one. Simple as that. I have no granduer dreams of being a "cleaner' (To qoute the totse forum jackass's) and I'm not nearly juvenile enough to play Ninja and wander around at night with a silenced pistol, nor am I dumb enough to either. I simply want to own one, much as the guy who requested a custom made sword wants that.
Practical reasons? None, to be honest.
But its something I've always dreamed of owning, and yes I realize its not easy to get one. It isnt like you go down to the pawn shop and pick one up.

And as a side note, if I *really* wanted one I could go back home and make one. Seeing as my dad owns a metal fabrication / permanent magnet fabrication business, I have access to all the required equipment. And seeing I I've done metal fabrication for...ohhh...6 years? I think I could handle making something such as this. But breaking the law is something I try and avoid nowadays so.....

Here ye go. ATOT is a hostile place for this kind of stuff, but heh. These guys also deal in both pre-ban and post-ban assault rifles and machine guns, and law enforcement weapons. Hell, if it's cool, and related to guns, they have it.
