Just trying to find out how the retail samples of the new 45nm chips are doing. Would prefer to find out about OC results but even stock opinions would be great. I know many people have ES chips but they usually vary greatly from the retail product.

thanks- I hadn't found that one- I just read about people being able to get them but didn't come up with any actual results of clocks - I'm a little hesitant at this point. Looks like I proved myself correct in that the ES chips were much much better performers than actual retail. Wish I was wrong on this one...

Well if you read the whole thread you'll see that some people has retail CPUs that are clocking very high just fine. It just looks like a mixed bag so far. Only time will tell. I still plan on getting an E8400. Hell it isn't much more than a E6750 anyway. If it clocks even the same but runs cooler and with less power, fine by me. Anything above 3.6 will be a bonus.

I thought that more or less it was basically an E6850 not an E6750 - I'll hold off for 4ghz IMO

Performance is on par and a bit better than an E6850 but price is of an E6750.

Hmm.. It's early to tell, but it's possible that Intel is at it again. Remember like a year ago when Q6600 was rolling out in the market, all of a sudden E6600s didn't clock as well as they used to? If the early 8xxx chips aren't up to the expectation, it's likely that Intel is cherry'ing the good dice for quads.. Ah.. the byproduct of MCM quad design.. ;)

E8500 appears to be a very high bin like QX9770.

I would recommend that over the E8400 even though it is only 160 mhz at stock I think they will overclock 200-300 mhz more.
