Pretty much set to go with this board. Hoping to get comments before I finally pull the trigger on the 14th

Is this the X38 chipset board? Been eying this mobo too, going to set-up a quad rig this December.

It's working well for me...

Q6600
2 x 2 GB Mushkin ddr2800 4-4-4-12 RAM
2 x Diamond Radeon 3870's in CF
2 x WD 500GB SATA
2 x Pioneer DVD SATA burners
Ultima90 cooler
Corsair 620W PSU

I got 16995 in 3dmark06 with my quad running at 9 x350, and the 3870's OC'd to 840/1300.

Lots of options for overclocking.
Great for a DDR2 Crossfire platform.
Futureproof (at least from the point that it supports Penryn)
Two full PCIx16 slots for lots of GPU bandwidth

I updated BIOS to 802 (beware of 901/902... bad reports coming in from early users).

Good thread here..... http://www.xtremesystems.org/f...1&posted=1#post2590431

Thanks for the info Nurn! I'll definitely keep that in mind. I see you're using ATI cards. I'll probably just use one of the new gts cards when they finally release

I've also got an eye on Maximus. I tend to hang back and watch the BIOS revisions unfold, read the complaints on the forums and watch for insightful reviews.

If someone wants to give me a "pure research" budget, I'll do it now. Otherwise, I invest less money in firsthand hardware research, more time in second-hand leg-work, and the money is an investment under a reduced-risk strategy . . . .

So in this poker-game, I "check" for now.

if ur not gonna fully use crossfire with the x38, u might as well wait for the new nvidia chipset.

I just purchased one of these (the non SE version) from newegg, Paypal recently had a 20% cashback offer (up to $50) that I took advantage off to pickup the this board for around $210 shiped after papal gives me some cash back :) I've read that whole XS thread, overall it seems to be a good board but it can be kinda picky w/ quads. the 802 bios seems to be the most recomended one atm although 902 seems to offer the same performance and just takes a bit more tweaking along w/ some bug fixes based on what I've read. in the XS thread theirs a link for a 1.2b beta Version of OCCT (around page 90) that seems to be a good indication of stability as prime 95 blend stable doesn't seem to be the whole story w/ this board. Also the Anandtech review of the board has some recomended bios settings that seem to work well for clocking quads. Also if you still want DDR 2 support this looks like it could be the last great board as it looks like X48 is going to be ddr 3 only for the most part. And I would not touch an Nvidia chipset Intel Board w/ a 10ft pole w/ all the issues they've had. Nvidia makes great video cards and amd chipsets but I'd stay away from their intel ones IMHO.

Yeah, that's what someone else mentioned in one of my other threads. I currently have a nvidia chipset board and I have no problems with it but it was from a couple of years back. Looks like I should be avoiding them altogether this time around
