I was wandering around Lowes earlier tonight and saw a refrigerator with a clearance tag on it, kind of glanced as I walked by and saw it said $200.00

I decided to take a closer look, it said "Damaged, for parts only, no coolant" and it looked like it had been dropped, the wide roller wheels on the back were pushed in a bit so the fridge wasn't sitting level and a few other thin metal plates and such were bent a bit.

I talked to a couple guys there and finally a manager, he asked what I wanted to pay, I offered $100.00 and he said o.k.

Model RS261MDWP /XAA

Going to pick it up tomorrow evening and get it in the garage to take a look, I am thinking they may have cracked an elbow on the compressor, if I can repair the crack that would be sweet, and if I need a new compressor it would be about $150.00 which would still be very nice.

So if any of you have access to repair manuals please let me know, thanks.

here is a pic of a compressor, I am looking at the coolant line stubs coming out of the compressor case first.

doesn't sound like you need the specific manual, maybe just a vacuum pump and refrigerant and a scale

My Mom has a samsung model that has had to have the circuit board replaced twice. Double door, freezer on the bottom, no idea what model. Might want to get a surge for it.

hmm i wonder how much just a refill and leak check costs at a repair place

why do you think it needs a new compressor?

The tag said "Parts only, no coolant" and it looks like it was dropped, so I am assuming it broke a seal in the system somewhere, the compressor sits right in the bottom back corner where it looked damaged from the drop.

Seems like the most likely place, just need to get a look at it tomorrow and see.

Google appliance repair DIY and a bunch of places will show up. Manuals are nice, but exploded parts diagrams are usually sufficient.

Stuff that got dropped can be a huge pain. I suggest sorting that damage out completely before proceeding on operational fixes.

BTW just because it was dropped and you bought it for $100 doesn't mean it won't have a normal warranty, sort of.

Nice call on the warranty, I hadn't even thought of that, I suppose known issues should still be covered, thanks!

I did find a manual for a slightly higher line of the same chassis which is still applicable to my model so I should be good there.

I plan to tinker with it and if it turns out to be a quick fix that would be nice, if not I suppose I will sell parts, or maybe list the whole thing on craigslist for $500.00  and take $250.00 for it.
