Are there any wireless providers that will do an annual, prepaid data plan as opposed to monthly?

Tmobile's $100 airtime cards are good for 1 year. Also, Tracfone has a 1 year service card, though I dont think it includes airtime.

Yeah - I checked out that deal - but it only applies to pay-as-you-go cell phones - not laptop connection cards. Am not interested in cells - just PCMCIA, PCExpress, or USB aircards for laptops.

I saw one at a truck stop marketed to truckers, dont know if it had a yearly option, but it was costly compaired to going with a contract. Slingshot mobile is the company. Up front cost was expensive, about $300 and service is $55/month. Looks like it uses the Sprint network and does allow off sprint roaming. Cricket has prepaid data for $40 in most of their markets, but only works in Cricket areas, no roaming. I think best bet would be to buy your own equipment and activate it with one of the nationwide carriers. If you bring your own equipment, there's no contract, and most will average ~$60/month.

$60/month is whatI have now - both Sprint and AT&T. But - the monthly charge sucks. This is the reason - some times I go 2-3 months ood to go with a 2GB/monthwith no use at all - but still pay the full fee. That is why I want an annual rate - less data, but on an annualized basis for lower total. I could then be good to go with a 2 GB/month that is sumulative. IOW, every month not used would roll over to the next. This could be measured simply by drawing from something like a 24 GB per year contract.
