Any angry HP scanner owners with Win2K?

I'm pretty pissed. My HP 4100C can only scan at 150dpi under Win2K. Other people don't have any support for their scanners. HP has been promising Win2K drivers for more than half a year now, with the August target date for the release of the proper scanning software being missed...without any official announcement from HP or apology through e-mail (any user wanting the updates were supposed to sign up on a mailing list to hear about any news).

I've just about had enough of companies who release hardware, but not the software to make it work. I stopped buying ATI cards back for this very same reason. I think this will be my last HP purchase.

Does anybody know any way that I can start scanning at say 600 dpi (or even 300dpi) without having to wait for this HP vaporware (that I won't even be able to download btw...have to order it on CD!)

Compared to NEC, HP is very good in their W2K support.

I purchased a NEC SuperScript 1200 laser printer in September, 1999. The printer uses a printer language Printgear developed by Adobe. In the Microsoft HCL, the printer is listed as W2K compatible. NEC promised the the W2K driver will be delivered within 2 months after the W2K launch.

NEC deleted all the reference to W2K driver from their web site in March 2000. The NEC SuperScript printers (all models) will print under W2K PCL emulation at reduced resolution only with poor print quality. I called NEC to complain because the printer is only half way through its factory warranty. An NEC support technician sent me an email saying that they no longer support their laser printers and I should write to their president for refund if I am unhappy. I did and was contacted by an assistant to the vice president of marketing. He said that NEC would not support their printer and would not accept the printer for refund. He said that NEC considered the W2K to be a minor operating system and NEC cannot chase every thing that Mr. Gates created. It was a business decision and I cannot do anything about it.

The NEC laser print sits at my basement corner. (If you runs W98, I can sell you the NEC printer at very good price.)

I bought a HP laserjet 4M plus used to replace the NEC printer. The W2K drive did not come until May this year, but I could use the generic PCL and Postscript at full 600 dpi resolution before the W2K driver release.

I will never buy another NEC printer again.

yes i am also disgruntled about HP. damn, i mean win2k has been out for a while and i can't get my 4200C scanner to work. i tried using the win98 software, but "no can do". i have to dual boot win2k and win98 as a result to use my scanner. i signed up for their e-mail notification of the latest driver and software, but so far nothing has come up.

forcesho,

You will do ok if you only run Windows 98 or earlier. The printer is a very decent printer. It runs fast and the quality is fine with Printgear. The problem is NEC's business practice of refusing to honor their one year warranty.

I have an OfficeJet R80 here at work. Today I noticed HPs All-in-One 2000 software is 1.0 (not beta, I presume). Everything else was included on the Win2K CD. The site has changed since my last visit (one week? two?).

HP promised drivers for the 3300 and 4200 scanners back in April and they never released them yet? I lost track of that since I dumped Win2K (got tired of screwy drivers and no drivers for hardware) and also moved up to the 5370 scanner.
They are just not interested in putting out drivers for the consumer versions of hardware and when they do, they are...crappy to say the least. Just look at the Soundblaster drivers for Win2K. There's barely enough there to get the card running.
