been out of the tablet game for a while
Trying to see if there are anything out worth buying and not slow and bloated. I currently have a Nexus 7 16gb 2nd gen
New or Used. Thinking of just getting an ipad and being done with the search.

The Android tablet market isn't looking great. If the budget allows, maybe a Galaxy Tab S3.

Truth be told, though, an iPad might be best. The Android tablet market seems to have mostly devolved into glorified Netflix viewers where Apple still treats them more as general-purpose computers. The newer base iPad in particular looks like a good balance of performance and price. I have an iPad Pro and love it, but it's overkill unless it'll be a laptop substitute.

I recently got a Samsung Tab S3 and love it. Sold my Ipad Pro 9.7 but kept my Ipad Pro 10.5. Overall I dig the S3 as the screen is great BUT, it does lag a bit. Hopefully oreo will fix that but I doubt it. Still, for 300 bucks on a one day sale I grabbed it. Oh, and HDR content looks great on it, which is pretty much why I got it.

I've had a Samsung Tab A 10.1" for about 6 months, and I really like it and have no complaints.

I also have a Kindle Fire HD 8" when it was on sale for $59 for use in areas that I don't want to risk damaging the Samsung (like soaking in the tub / hot tub for bad back). I find that one sluggish and not very impressive. But it does the job it needs to for the price I paid for it.

I have two of the Fire HD 8" tablets. I bought both when on sale for $59 as well! Great deal. They are fair tablets and work well for reading some lite gaming and watching movies.
I have a ASUS Tablet TF701T which is a great tablet for everything. I also have a windows 8 tablet which if I'm honest hasn't been used at all and last I have two ipads, gen 1 and gen 3. Of all the tablets I own the ipads are the best. The gen 1 is no longer supported but the gen 3 is still going strong.

Personally I would just buy a used ipad.

Nope. Only useful tablets are Windows based. Or if you need it for consuming media, iPad.

I 'sidegraded' from my Nexus 7 to an asus transformer infinity tf700t last year. Tegra 4 and 2GB of RAM ain't very fast.... But, the 16:10 1600p display, 2 SD card slots, 2 batteries, keyboard/trackpad, 1 full size usb port, and the hdmi lets me use this as a game console/media powerhouse. I got it used.

It is basically a netbook. Asus bailed on making a new one, and it is now 5 years since its successor. Kinda says a lot...

I also have an iPad Air 2, but I barely use it. I honestly feel like tablets are in a weird place right now.

I guesd you have to decide what you are looking for in a tablet.

I was also going from a Nexus 7 to something faster and bigger. I ended up with a Lenovo Tab4 and it has been great. Much faster, great screen, and it is what I was looking for to surf, take notes, and the occasional game.
