As stated, why is it that you don't want aim so you can be directed to something you might like better.

Also, there are lots of IM programs out there now.

well, i don't like the ****** AOL put in the new aim. I have many many many people that only use aim and still would like to use that service

like i want a very light program that just lets me IM people haha



edit......... that miranda is just what i was looking for SOOOO simple haha i like it thanks a lot

Miranda ftw! I chose it for the exact same reason: light-weight. (but of course, it's exandable with plugins)

can't beat an older version of aim with adhack. nothing else is quite the same if you use aim 90% of the time for im chatting.

I use gaim but i still have a hell of a time receiving file transfers =(

Sometimes I use a site called Meebo.com. It's completely web-based, so you don't have to install anything, and it works with all of the major IM programs. It's pretty nice.

Edit: Not sure if Meebo supports downloading though. I haven't tried it.

Seconded. The first time AOL put an ad in with video and sound was also the last, at least for me.
