Any Alaska or Northern Canada residents here?

I know global warming has been discussed time and time again here and there are plenty of arguments on both sides. However, can we really get a good idea of global warming from lower 48 (Where most of us are from)? We see the news, read the newspapers, get information from the web but how accurate is this information?

Alaska residents (Or very northern people), do you see global warming happening in your area? Are the icecaps truly shrinking? I know it's winter now but on the average, have you seen anything to indicate global warming?

Please keep this clean and civil.

I'm loling at this thread. There are so many factors that influence weather, people saying that ice is melting or not will not give you answers.

I disagree. If residents of the northern regions have noticed shrinking of glaciers that would, in my opinion, give a good indication of global warming.

Very few people will argue that the globe is not warming at all...the chief contention is over the amount that humans are to blame.

It is very well documented that glaciers are receding in most places in the world. I have witnessed this myself personally as well.

I agree. Unfortunately many people here will argue up and down that it doesn't exists. Until someone who comes forward and tells us first hand their experiences, such as yourself, people will continue to close their eyes and turn the other way and go about their business.

I don't mean to sound like a teacher type or whatever, but can you possibly explain what you have witnessed?

While the permafrost in some areas up here is melting, according to local university experts, many of our glaciers are actually expanding.
