Coming into possession of a super bug next week. It's going to need a bunch of work to get it how I want it, but, should be a fun project.

I need something simple to cancel out my modern cars :awe:

No pics yet, but, I'll post some when I get it in town. :)

post yours if you got one..!

I recently sold my two Bugs. I had a 69 that the original owners install an aftermarket ragtop and a 71 Super. I had the 69 for 10yrs. Great vehicles.

Friend of mine has a 68 he's rebuilding. Last time we were out in it he had a guy offer him $7000 cash for it and he didnt take it (he hadnt even started work on it, paid $2800 and that was it, the guy was dead serious, but so was my friend). Will be a very cool car when he's done.

Me and my dad built a 1953 MG TD replica kit car out of a 69 VW beetle. Kit car was completed in 1982. The car has been covered in his shop since aprox. 1995 and has not been cranked or moved since. I asked him if he was ever going to do anything with the car and he said you can have it if you will get it out of here.

I picked it up last Thur. and got in running rough today. Waiting on a carb kit and hope that will cure the rough running. Car is in pretty good condition. Gel coat and carpet needs some attention.

I know there's someone around here with a clean looking Corvair. Not the same as a bug, but they're interesting none the less. When I worked in autobody we did a resto on a 68 bug two brothers were having redone for their dad. Was actually a fun car to work on, we even built a rotisserie for the shell that was a huge help in making it fun to work on lol. Ended up getting painted an eggshell white. They are definitely an experience different than any other car to drive lol.

I have a 72 std, with an aftermarket sunroof cut in. Was my DD for several years, needs to be redone and is on the project list.

Of course both of my bikes are aircooled as well.

That's pretty awesome. Be sure to update once you get it running well again. :)

My first car was a '71 Super Beetle.

I restored a '68 Beetle and that was quite fun (low res):

I keep telling myself I'm going to finish the motor but I guess I just don't listen.

Cool rides guys.

Got it home the other week, but I've been too broke/busy to do much work on it. Need to clear some garage space so I can get the body off, and work on it over winter...

Here's a pic of the ride home

She runs, but not very well.. no power (bad timing probably? and old gas can't help...)
Originally had an alt with external reg (only 73/74 cars had that, and I guess it's sort of hard to find) so the PO apparently hacked in a generator instead of the newer style alt. It isn't charging, even though the generator and regulator both seem to check out on their own.. ah well, I'll be throwing an alt on once I get it apart anyway.

See how the pan is, if it's rough I'll weld in new pieces.. convert it to disc, lower it a bit. hopefully have the body ready for paint by the time spring rolls around (horrrrrrible maaco paint job on it right now).

interior is pretty ugly and stinky. I don't like the dash on the supers.. doesn't seem to be much aftermarket either, so I might have to fab something, so I can have more than one gauge...

anyway, that's all for now :awe:

How long had it been sitting before you took possession of it?

I'd do all the regular tune-up stuff. Get new points, cap, rotor, condenser, spark plugs, spark plug wires, and adjust the valve lash. That's all fun stuff. Not having the correct fittings for the remote oil filter? Sucks

does aircooled still post here?

He's still around, I think.

My mom used to have one of those. Same colour too. Unfortunately, air cooled engines are not designed for Canadian winters. Those old bugs would take forever to warm up. You'd have to scrape the windshield while trying to drive because it kept icing over.
