Any advantages to sending a Money Order through the mail rather than cash?

If I accidentally recieve your envelope with cash in it then I can spend it. If it's a MO made out to someone else then I can't, at least not without some effort.

That's the other good thing about MOs, verification.

If the postal employee shipping your mail decides he wants your cash, he can jsut take it.

money orders for $0.01-$5,000 i think are 90 cents each at the post office.

im sure about it being 90 cents. at 7-11, they charge you up the ass like 10%.

so can i refund a money order if it has never been cashed? or lost/destroyed?

I would not do this. My mom recently sent me an envelope for Christmas through the mail and she put cash in it. The money was stolen from the envelope. Now if she had put a money order in there, the culprits would have saw that they would have no value for the MO, therefore they would not have stole the MO like they did the cash. MO = better than no cash at all.

At my workplace, we get a lot of envelopes that have been previously opened, then taped or stapled back together. We believe that the monkeys at the post office are putting our mail in the wrong PO Box, since we also get a lot of other people's mail in our PO Box. Also, the "pre-opened" mail postmarks are generally a few days older than all the other mail we get.

Does that answer your question?

Yeah they have a $1K limit per MO and $10K per day limit I believe.

For $5K it's best to get a Cashier's Check.

The PO will most likely ask for ID, if it's depostited into a bank account then that's traceable.

Money Orders can be purchased at your local US Post Office or bank/credit union.

Personally I prefer cashier's checks then again I get everything for free being a bank employee.

I would only send cash if I neeed to do it quickly, it was a small amount (under $50), well concealed and to someone that I trusted.
