Any additional latencies with wireless over wired?

Hi, i play a lot of Counterstrike source, which is laggy enough as it is.. however i want to move my gaming pc upstairs, but dont want a 50meter cable running downstairs... SO the obvious choice is wireless.. I know that the bandwidth of wireless is clearly less than cat5 cables, but would it create extra latency when not transferring packets of over 11mb? ( the access point im looking at is 802.11b ) IE, would i get worse ping in games n such?

thanks

I would not consider anything B only. I would get G no question. Range is better. Top speed is better which means realistic speed is also better. Getting a B only router would just limit yourself.

Pick an a linksys or netgear or whatever wireless router that is G compliant or better and go from there.

There's normally a slight delay when the connection is initializing but once it's going there shouldn't be much delay but for something like an online game that is constantly sending data, any speed increase is great. And since most wireless routers don't come in B only as much any more and the prices for G have dropped so much.... Just get G. You'll be glad you did.
