Howdy,

My church is looking for some sort of simple database they can use to track the givings of the members and then print off simple reports every quarter to mail to people with their record of giving.

They have a program to do this now that was custom made by someone but that person is literally dying of cancer and they have a new person doing the record keeping now so they want to look into getting something new that is easier to update.

If they have something designed in a standardized database program (like Access), then they could make simple tweaks later as long as they have the original MDB file.

I don't know all the specs left as I was just told about this today but I think all they need to do is track the member's information, the giving information, and print reports every so often to send to the people so they know what they've done.

This sounds very simple to me to setup in the back end but I suck as designing the forms to go with it to make it real pretty and user friendly.

If anyone knows anyone that can do this or can refer me to any forums of people who might want to take this on, please let me know. They have a very limited budget for this but I think it should be pretty simple to do.

Thanks!

The database file can contain all the information required within 2 tables.

For something like that, just use Quickbooks, which is inexpensive.

Or, the other brand is Microsoft Accounting, which is temporarily free here

Your office manager will have enough on their hands learning to use a canned product like either of those, which both are excellent (I use Quickbooks but also have the MS Accounting to experiment with ) without getting tangled in a big trial & error mess trying to properly design a database and develop report writing off the database.

Edit: On 2nd thought you don't really even need Quickbooks. You actually could do that even more simply with Quicken, which is even easier.

I can do it for you in access.. its very easy.. if the requirement is as simple as you have mentioned, it shouldn't take me more than 30 min and I won't mind making one for you free of charge..

pm me the requirement and we'll see.

You may want to consider a program specifically designed for churches, such as Church Windows.

Church Windows is a comprehensive membership and financial package. The Membership module maintains records of members (names, addresses, birth dates, confirmations, baptisms, etc.); the Financial module includes Contribution tracking and statements of giving, which is what you're asking about, and Accounting and Financial statements. Payroll can be purchased as a separate module and integrates with Financial. A trial version can be downloaded.

I've requested some additional information from the people that use this program to get some more details on exactly what it does and doesn't do as well as what they wish it could do. I'll update this if/when I get some more information.

Thanks!
