Company has been out 5 times in the last year and they cant seem to find a leak but of course it has to be going somewhere. Not paying for calls but still a pain to call them every few months and be without till they get here.

My Question:

Is there any way to find a freon leak without using a sniffer??? Any type dye that can be put in the system like they used to do with cars???

They have even checked all copper lines running through my attic, didnt find a leak but think they should replace them!!!

House is only 6 years old and BTW I am using the term freon but I mean refrigerant.

Any suggestions/help strongly appreciated! Thanks

easiest method to fix is to replace copper, otherwise you can use 'soap' is what my dad calls it check all the welded joints..

my dad is a hvac engineer so i followed him while installing units all the time..

but hope that helps.

Yeah, thanks, aware of soap for joints.

My problem is some of the copper is imbedded in the outside wall and cant be checked easily and quite expensive to replace. Damn Floriduh builder.

Introduce Freon leak detector, it is a dye that will show itself readily at the leak, otherwise buy or rent a sniffer.

out 5 times to fill it or to try and just fix it? mine leaks and needs about 2lbs of freon a year. I will never have it fixed (the evaporator/central heat unit is over 20yrs old), and will keep it til it falls thru the garage ceiling (figure of speech) I live floriduh too :)
