Yes, I know macs suck, but I bought a dvd rw drive for a teacher who has a mac, and she wants to be able to copy dvd's and what not.

I've been looking, and I'm about to suggest dvd2one, but I'm not sure.

I want to find out if there's anything that's absolutely free, and if not, then I'll have to lead her in that direction.

Macs suck?

You can make disk images with Disk Utility, in the utilities folder.
Else, DVD's may be written in the Finder.

What type of machine is it?

dvdbackup backs up the dvd, but it doesn't allow me to shrink it down and make it fit on a 4.7 gig dvd-r...

I'm only asking because I have a client who bought a dvd burner from me for a mac and she wanted to be able to copy dvd's...

if it was a pc, well dvdshrink would be awesome, but hey, it's a mac...

is there a program that goes along with dvd backup (OTHER THAN DVD2ONEX) that I can use?

Check the Mac section in dvdrhelp.com forums. Two programs off the top of my head: Handbake and DVD2oneX (not free for the moral ones).
