are there any?

my case is pretty rammed full at the moment, and i want more space so i was thinking of side grading to a X1900XTX (happy with performance i have now, just want the space)

so i was thinking X1900XTX -> with a Zalman VF900 or the like to keep the noise down.

the x1900 xtx will cream the 7800 gt sli setup anyday.if it was 7900 gt sli setup, that would win.
And it's always better buying a single card. And yes that cooler will keep heat and noise down.

I think Tech Report had the GTs in their X1900 review, but they only did two or three games.

I made this switch a few weeks ago and they're comparable overall. It depends on which games you play. From what I've seen the benchmarks can sometimes be misleading, as SLI seems to subjectively "feel" slower than the framerate would indicate when vsync is not working, which is the case in most games. Out of the stuff I've tried, the 7800GTs were considerably better in Doom 3, Quake 4 and Riddick, the X1900XTX has an equally significant advantage in FEAR, SCCT and NFSMW, and they're pretty similar in everything else. I basically had to drop down one resolution in the first three games and was able to go up a resolution in the other three.

Although if you're only switching for freeing up space, why not just get a bigger case instead?

i like the case i have, and dont really wanna change it. since i dont have the time to lug everyting out, then lug everything back in.

plus any bigger and i will just get fed up completely of carting this thing to and from uni. i does my nut.

BF2 and a few RTS games is all i play atm.

but...sigh.......i realy dont know what i want right now, just a bit reluctant to really do anything with this computer, the cost of pc gaming is getting beyond me for the moment, and i just dont have the time to do much gaming.

There is no need to switch with a 7800GT SLI setup. I'm betting that, aside from Oblivion, that setup still runs any game great. Wait until next gen, or at least a refresh.

I switched from a 7800gt sli setup to the X1900XTX, because it only cost me 20 dollars, and I wanted to play oblivion better. I have not noticed any difference in speeds, except in a few games, in which case the X1900XTX was slower slightly.

7800GT SLI would be faster in everything except Oblivion, and that would equalize above 1280x1024 because Nvidia cards tend to not care about the resolution in Oblivion (1024x780 will run as mediocre as 1600x1200 on my system outdoors) whereas ATI cards scale properly to resolution.

I also sold my SLI 7800GT cards for a single card solution. In my case I decided to go with a single 7900GTX that is currently selling for $430 shipped after rebate at Zipzoomfly.com . The 7900GTX and X1900XTX are close in performance. If you want an idea on how much you can get for your 7800GT, I sold a eVGA n718 for $198 shipped and my MSI with Accelero X1 for $225 shipped. So doing the math, it is less than $50 to upgrade after PayPal and Ebay fees. Another benefit to a single card is less heat inside my case. Noise not an issue since I had an Accelero.

Good luck.
