I am looking for a good forum for these cars. I am mulling over the idea of a project car and always wanted one of these when I was younger.

Thanks

project car wise I'd recommend a 240SX over the 300Z TT
if you want a TT project car the toyota supra is your best bet IMO.

The only forum you need to know about is http://www.twinturbo.net

If you have any questions, feel free to PM me. I just recently sold my 91ZXTT, after owning it for 7 years. It was just time for a new project.

The cars are great, mine was practically indestructable and my maintenance costs were minimal. I sold it with 153,000 miles - and had it at "stage III" (~400 hp) for 6.5 of those 7 years. 400-430 horsepower is easy and cheap. 450-550 horsepower is going to cost you $2500-$4000 for new turbos and injectors. Anything past that and you're going to be looking at $$$. But considering you can pick up a used TT pretty cheap, it means you could have a reliable daily driver 500 horsepower car for under $15,000.

uncle had one. His turbos kept going out every 50-60k. Lasted him a good 10 years until a truck hit him. I remember he spent a lot of money on repairs but that was because they didn't take good care of it at all once he got married. Great car , love the interior setup. Find one with good paint because his was rusting, but he never did wax or polish it and the underneat of his car was all peeling off.
With good care this is a great car, just be prepared for the twin turbo expenses.

Actually I think he goes through NAs all the time, but he's still looking for a good TT :)

Aimster, a number of things in your post suggest that you're talking about a Z31 (1985-1989) 300ZX, not a Z32 1990-1996) 300ZX... If you are in fact talking about a Z32, that must have been a hell of a neglected car - mine sat outside for every bit of 13 years, and while the paint wasn't exactly showroom fresh it waxed up pretty nicely. Also your comments on the turbos, the 89 and earlier 300ZX used a single turbo that WAS prone to failure, but the 90+ 300ZX was a twin turbo setup that was both oil and water cooled, so turbo failures were unlikely. (Again, see my car, 153k on the original turbos - even running at 130% of stock boost levels.)

There is virtually no comparison between the Z31 and Z32. About the only thing you can say about both of them is that they were both a little chubby. One was a heavy 300hp car, the other was a heavy 200hp car. Of course after seeing any number of bizarrely demolished Z32s in junkyards and online - I'm glad they used lots of metal in there, the passenger compartments usually seem pretty intact.
