I have a lone tree in my house (I live in a desert). The problem is that it seems that around the tree there are two anthills one with small red ants and another one with small black ants; actually I couldn?t find the exact source of the ants, but all traces are toward that tree.

I want that ants dead, but I don?t know what to do to kill them. Any suggestions? Obviously that doesn?t involve poison, because I don?t want to poison the tree.

Get some ant traps. The ants go in, bring out the poison, take it back to the hive and kill it. Shouldn't hurt the tree at all.

Your situation seems perfectly setup for an ant war.

Any intervention by you in the ongoing war between the small red ants and the small black ants will immediately result in them joining forces and laying siege to you and your loved ones.

Just throwing this out there:

There are poisons that will kill ants and not harm your tree. They've been around for awhile.

Step 1 - Take one of the red ants and paint it black.
Step 2 - Take one of the black ants and paint it red.
Step 3 - Release the ants back to their original hill and each colony of ants will think they've been invaded.
Step 4 - Watch them go to war.
Step 5 - Take pics of massive ant war and post them!
Step 6 - Profit!?

Why kill them? are they fire ants or native ants? I would leave them be unless they sting badly.

I was hoping to see an ant war. I don?t know why they don?t attack themselves.

About the poison, can someone recommend me a specific brand?

Native, I think.

It happen before that I left some leftovers and bang I wake up and a lot of ants were pillaging my kitchen. I did solve the problem by cleaning after every meal, but I live in constant fear of them attacking my cupboard (they did it once).

Those ants just don't care about anything. I need to teach them.

I loved setting up matches like that in SimAnt back in the early 90s.

I just take a shoe to my tiny roommates.

I'm sure I'm slowly reducing their population.

Get some powdered ant killer that you spread around the hole. The ants will carry it back into the hole thinking its food and then the whole colony will die given a day or two. I live on the edge of town and we have ants like crazy. We use this stuff and it works great. I forget what its called, but it comes in a tube about the size of a pringles can.

Best bet is to lay traps or poison out there for them, just something to draw them out in the open.

That's what I was thinking. Is there anyway to get them to fight at all?

Have you ever played Sim Ant? The red ants must die!

Seriously, they sell tons of different poisons for this very reason. Home Depot Garden Department is all you need. Pick your poison ;)

I was under the impression that red and black ants fought all the time, and the red ants almost ALWAYS win. Is this not true? Seriously, black ants apparently suck. Them beating the red ants is like Man City beating Arsenal, it just doesn't happen.
