Maybe it's because my room used to be the garage.

I think its normal. A lot of people I know (clean people) have ants. Get some traps for them.

fireants, bulldog ants, i can't think of anymore offhand, but ALOT bite

get traps. put ones along the walls that are adjacent to the outside. and one near your door so they don't go into the main house

Actually I think it's on the type of ant. Only one type of household black ant bites.
