Some antivirus program PC-Cillin that came with my Epox 8RDA+ told me that 1,600+ files were infected... I told it to clean them... but it ended up deleting a bunch of them or renaming them to disable their use. Turns out they were all important files. Luckily the program had an option to restore, so I manually had to click on each file and restore it. Mostly everything works now, except several problems... somtimes when INterent Explorer gets to a page, it doesn't load it or shows an error and I have to refresh it or open new window. Aim also has problems, as I cannot post away msgs or it freezes... those are just the 2 that are blatant.

I run "chkdsk" and it tells me that the file system is degraded, and it claims it fixes things, but it does not. I run it, and same errors are posted and "fixed" every time. Moreover, I ran Norton Utilities to check it, and it scheduled chkdsk on reboot, b/c "computer is using harddrive at the moment." During reboot, same thign happens... winXP launches chkdsk, checks/fixes corrupt files, but nothing is fixed. I have already re-installed aim, it worked a bit, and then same problem started to occur. And from what I understand Internet Explorer can't be reinstalled, unless formatting takes place... So my question is... what do I do??

1. Reboot
2. Run chkdsk /f c:
3. Reboot
4. Install some real antivirus program (the free AVG if nothing else) and do a full scan.
5. Add/remove programs, add/remove windows components. Uncheck, then check internet explorer and click next.
6. Goto windowsupdate.microsoft.com and reapply service packs for your I.E.
7. Reinstall AIM.

Some of those files may very well have been important - but if they are infected you don't want them back.
