AntiVirus On or Off?

Hello all:

I know that nVidia recommends to turn your AntiVirus stuff off during the intall of drivers but is it necessary to do so when installing other stuff like games?

I always ignore that advice and leave it on. I guess I'm just a risk taker who likes living on the edge.
