Any recommendations for antivirus for a small business that is running Server 2003 and has about 25-30 machines, all running XP pro? Central management would be nice, and as always, price is a concern too. Thanks!

I saw Vipre before as an advertisement in the Technet Journal, when they were printing it. Hadn't really heard of them, but thanks for the recommendation. How's their reputation and like Chiefcrowe asked, how has the performance been?

I think they all cost about the same. Around $50-$60 per device for initial licenses and maybe $20-$30 a year for renewals.

However, I think about everybody offers a "competitive upgrade" that can put the initial cost down to the renewal cost.

Lately, I've used Symantec's EndPoint Protection Manager and Trend Micro's "Worry Free Business Security Advanced". Both are fairly easy to manage once you get the hang of it.

I didn't choose the Symantec software (the client bought it on his own) and it was a real pain at first. It seems to work OK now. It was crashing Vista desktops earlier.

We had a very good experience with Eset NOD32 Antivirus 4.2. Easy to update and works great!

What was your fix for this? As well, how did you fix the issue with endpoint being unable to remotely deploy the symantec client to a vista workstation?

This was a while back. I downloaded the very latest version of SEPM and that seemed to fix the Vista issue.

I "fixed" the issue of SEPM not being able to remotely remove previous versions of Symantec AV by going to each PC and manually removing the previous version.

I actually went ahead and bought VIPRE Enterprise Premium 4.0, but haven't rolled it out yet. As a bonus, they gave me 30 licenses for their home version VIPRE Antivirus Premium. Reviews seemed pretty good, but I've had an issue with my laptop crashing before going into sleep. Happens every time, so I'm a little more pensive about putting this out on my network until I see how tech support helps resolve this. So far, not so good. I'll see how this turns out and let everyone know

Please do.

We are are possibly going to Symantec Endpoint on advice of an outside IT contractor that is pushing it.

Looking for alternatives.

Have signed up for the Viper demo and now need the time to run it in a test environment. Sounds familiar I am sure.

My company is a registered partner with BitDefender and I can get great prices on their products.

If you are interested, PM me and we can discuss pricing.

sorry to threadcrap on this subject, but i found a tidbit of info regarding vista crashes and SEP.

in my network, we have some pretty serious auditing going on, and when the AV touches the files it creates an event in the security log. i was getting frequent crashes until i finally realized that the reason the box would blue screen was due to a full security log. after looking at the logs i noticed a ton of audit failures and the culprit was endpoint. while there was nothing i could do about the auditing (the files needed to be audited) i changed the setting in endpoint to disable scanning those files, as well i increased the log size from default 80 mb to 500mb to prevent crashes like that from occurring again. this along with weekly dumps of the logs has kept me from a vista crash since.

oh and btw, i was able to figure out how to push SEP remotely from the SEPM without having to upgrade to SEPM 11.0.6. what a relief!
