Here's what I want to know. If you still have an older graphics card laying around, what particular games are you playing on it?

Here's my rules for this thread.
1) Not interested in older graphics cards being used only for 2D output. You've got to have a 3D application for the card.
2) Let's keep it to cards 3years and older.

I'll go first since I'm starting up this thread. I still have an old Athlon 800Mhz box that I have Win2k on with a Voodoo 4 4500 AGP card. This system exists solely to play Final Fantasy VII and VIII for the PC in all their original 8bit palletized texture glory. Final Fantasy VII took a serious amount of tweaking to get it working correctly under Win2k, but the result is glorious. I also like to run some of the older Need for Speed games on this box as well.

I need to get my old P3 800@1000mhz running again with a Voodoo5 5500 AGP for my beloved Janes Flight Simulators.

GLide wrappers just dont do it for me.

I don't use it anymore. But, on my old socket A system I used to have a GeForece Ti4200 64MB (I later upgarded to a 6800nu). I had a mild overclock on it, if I remember right I ran it at 270/550. I could play Doom 3 @ 800x600 on it reasonably well.

I can run Google Earth on a Riva TNT 2 with Xubuntu Linux on my father's ancient P4 1.4GHz box. I've also played CS, HL and Warcraft III on it.

GE is definetly the most GPU intensive of those applications. It does run with the lowest settings and textures resolutions, but sometimes I get the impression the thing is going to blow up in a midst of smoke

I have an old system for Mame. It also uses a 4:3 CRT instead of widescreen LCD which is what my primary system uses. I don't know but I never get tired of old arcade games :)

I have an idea that I might keep my x1900xt until it becomes antique and see how long it lasts me.

Edit: Also, I still have the craptastic Dell w/ the geforce2 mx. Might as well keep that too... :p

I have my Savage Viper 2000 for Unreal Tournament and the second CD special effects.

Manli drivers work great in XP.

Like the OP, I keep an old system around exclusively for playing retro games. It's mainly for DOS games since the motherboard in it supports ISA emulation and lets me get SB16 support off an SBLive card, but there are also a few Glide or Win95 exclusive titles that I play on there. This rig has a Geforce 3 and two Voodoo2s in it. A few years ago, I used to use it quite often for the 3dfx versions of Descent 1 and 2, but those have since been superceded by the OpenGL-based D2X-XL. The V2s don't get much use anymore, although I occasionally play Nuclear Strike and Streets of Simcity on there, which require Glide.

I recently picked up an old DOS space sim called The Last Dynasty off ebay. I can use this rig to play it with full sound (used to have it many years ago, but the CD broke), although it's not 3D accelerated at all.

Is that the same as Battlezone or something else? My last final exam is tomorrow and I intend to go on an old gaming spree after that, with BZ one of the games on my list. :)

Haha, I remember BZ and didnt they have a second one? I remember thinking that the graphics looked amazing.

That game actually came with my Creative TNT card. I remember giving anyone with a 3DFx card crap cause I could run BZ in 32bit color... muahaha!

I have K6-2+'s and K6-3+'s running Voodoo 2 SLI and a Voodoo 3 3000.

I also have a 233MMX with a PCI Banshee in it, and a lowely 386DX40 with a ISA Trident TVGA 9000C in it.

stashed away in my parts boxes I have ISA, VLB and PCI Tridents, Tseng labs, S3 and Cirrus logics as well as many other things, like my more modern stuff like TNT2's, GF2's, GF3's GF4's and ATI's from Rage 2c up to 9000 pro's...I will use most of it one day.

I think I might be right on the mark with the 3 year limit...but I have a PNY GeForce FX 5700 Ultra. Still runs great even after a few upgrades of hardware currently running Athlon 64 3700+ (clawhammer socket 754) with 1Gig Corsair XMS Extreme Performace DDR400 CL2.

I still play games like CS:S, Halo PC, BF2 (looks crappy but runs with good frame rates),DOD:S, HL2, Need For Speed Most Wanted/Carbon and a few more not worth mentioning. I am building a new machine with C2D and 8800Series gfx card coming this Jan. I actually already have the cpu+mobo, hd, case, psu, only thing I need is ram+gfx card but has to wait till after the holidays...its the season for giving and my family comes first :D

My 3rd rig is a Celeron 366@550 (which i bought 7+yrs ago!:Q) with a Riva128 & a Voodoo 1 ,I kept it to play Screamer Rally as I couldn't get it to work on a Voodoo2.

My 2nd rig has only just inherited a Radeaon 9700 Pro from my main rig where it was playing Guild Wars,NFS UG2,HL2 ,Farcry and other older games.
Now its plugged into a 15" CRT (instead of 19") it'll be able to play those games at higher details ,thanks to the lower res of course ;) ,still a capable card.

The GF4 Ti4200 (o/c to 4400+) the 2nd rig had is now in my sons rig where it'll work fine with his 14" CRT ,though he maybe getting a bigger flat screen soon which will mess those plans up :p

I used to play Forsaken (same type game as descent) on my Voodoo1 ,still play it occasionally now :) ,is D2X-XL the latest version of Descent? got a link for that? Would be nice to have a modern equivalent of Forsaken to play.

Btw I tried the Descent 2 demo a few years or more ago but I found the controls really sluggish compared to Forsaken (wasnt a PC spec problem).

Although it doesn't qualify as an antique, the integrated NVidia 6150 on my mobo allows me to currently be playing Prince of Persia - The Sands of Time at 800x600 with all settings maxed out. No slowdown at all.

From old reviews I have found on the web, the graphics in this game were pretty much state-of-the-art back in 2003. It shows how much games and hardware have evolved in 3 years.

When I finish this game, I will then move on to Tomb Raider Legends...for which I will get a discrete video card.

Yeah, there was a sequel. Its gameplay was even better than the first one IMO.

I also had a TNT at that time, although I don't remember whether I used that or the V2 for this game. They had a patch with upgraded graphics that made the explosions look stunning at the time, and they actually still hold up pretty well today.

It's a fanmade upgrade of Descent 2 based on the D2 source code. It's a must-have if you're into the Descent games, especially since it allows you to set up multiplayer games much more easily than the original. Last summer, I was playing this and Descent 3 with some people on another forum almost daily, although we haven't played for a while now due to time constraints.
