Let's see. Maybe a little shouting and about as much violence as a good old Irish wake and complaining about how awful it was.

I'm anti-fascist. Retired army too.

I live in Redondo Beach CA. Wanna test your theory with this "3rd gender" old man?

You're right down the road..

Did you see my "California Vet" thread?

Antifa is nothing like allied forces in Germany defeating the Nazi's. Those were real men.

Antifa is some 3rd gender that is yet to be discovered... Not men.
I just want to take a moment to express an old memory of high emotional sentiment that profoundly affected me as a young boy in a WWII cemetery filled as far as I could see with the white grave markers of just those very fallen.

I was overcome with a sense of incomprehension at the magnitude of waste, the grief and loss of so many souls who lost loved ones in that war fought to stop the murderous lusts and sick ambitions of folk who used racial superiority to justify their feelings of grievance born of trumped up entitlement.

I wonder, too, would it simply not have been better, when the Nazis started marching through the cheering-crowd-thronged streets in all those soon to be firebombed out cities, had the citizens, instead, simply gone out and beaten those marchers to death. Some suggest the death toll reached 80 million.

The spiritual among us say that violence is not the way, so I just hope the white supremacists don’t forget to put sun screen on before they march.

Just a reminder, it's the Proud Boys and Patriot Prayer leaders who are currently facing felony charges for assault and rioting. It's the Proud Boys and Patriot Prayer who have organized this protest with the express intent of having the govt shut down the free speech of their political opposition, which the right wing POTUS tweeted agreement with this morning. So much for the far right's professed love of free speech.

And so far, the Portland Police are doing a great job of containing and separating the 2 groups. I look forward to them keeping their promise and promptly arresting any troublemakers. Now if only the right wing out-of-towners who bring their violent BS to our city could be billed for what they cost us.

Pretty much a non-event. The Portland Police escorted the Proud Boys across the Hawthorne Bridge and out of the protests. Practically over before it started. But hey, thanks for costing the city taxpayers over $2MM...

You mean the police kept the lid on things and Antifa didn't break through and attack? How unsurprising.

I'm no fan of antifa and their hooliganism, but they aren't the ones whose leaders are currently facing felony charges for rioting and assault from prior 'protest' events. They aren't the ones who organized this protest, requiring significant expense from the city taxpayers (of which I am one).
Try to look at it from the viewpoint of a local. Every summer for the past few years, right wing extremist groups from out-of-town bus their members in from across the country to hold their little protests in our city at our expense. And what are they always protesting? That their 'free speech' is more important than anyone else's. How would you like it if they chose your city instead?

People who have been humiliated and made to feel worthless, and not just like we all were, but those severely damaged who got it in spades, have lost all inner resources and feelings of personal dignity to combat those feelings. These are the ones who become fanatics, external identifiers, who glom on to any delusional idea that will make them feel better about themselves and parade it for the sake of any negative attention they can generate, the only kind they feel able to garner. Costing a city 2M is a badge of honor, the brownie points of those who have been made to feel worthless and are full of rage as a result. I wish we educated our children to find real worth within themselves so we could begin to put a dent in this form of mental illness.

But we won't because to see that disease in others always starts with seeing it in oneself.

I assess threat by the potential for damage and Antifa is far lower on the list than those others you mention. Note this is an ideologically neutral perspective and quite intentionally so. I want to understand the threat level as it exists and then I will consider connections to get a more complete picture. I feel as you do regarding Antifa and when they do damage they should pay for it out of pocket which is where it really hurts.

They, however, do not match the right-wing extremist groups when evaluated by more objective standards than "I don't like them" as the FBI does. Lastly, the right-wing people are morally reprehensible, not every Republican nor people who aren't Liberal as it is defined today, but those who organize these events and work towards harming the structure of our nation in areas where it matters.

Funny thing is that if Antifa were to burn out a building, I couldn't name a person here who would approve of it but the alt-right extremists can and will find a reason to do real harm or at least deflect from their actions when they attempt to bomb people directly because they find Trump inspiring. I can't remember such a thing in my life until now.

No, they're claiming victory and rightfully so. Because by walking away, the Proud Boys put the antifa useful idiots on the national stage for the whole country to see. And what does the whole country see? A mob of masked hooligans. Fucking idiots.

I wholeheartedly agree with you. Antifa and the Proud Boys are not liberals and conservatives (respectively). They are extremist groups, neither of which represent the views and interests of mainstream America. But only one of those 2 extremist groups has the express backing and support of a major party's political leadership.

Nah. Fascist and fascist groups are, no one at that rally is anti-fascist.

Oh that's right. I forgot you're brainwashed by the Orwellian propaganda.

War is peace
Freedom is slavery
Ignorance is strength
Anti-fascist means fascist.
Anti-racist is racism.

Look how stupid you are. Antifa stands for anti-fascist. They literally are called ANTI FASCIST and oppose all those who express racist and nationalist ideologies.

And look at you... believing the literal opposite of reality.

One side thinks it's just peachy to toss folks in ovens. One side hates that and wants to stop the people who think that it's just peachy to toss folks in ovens.

Yeah, exactly the same.

I'm starting to think that you're just another guy who really wants a silver shirt.

Nitpicking, but it would be camo shirts and red hats.

You mean fascist and anti-fascist groups are expected to clash at an event organized by the fascist hate group Proud Boys who extended invites to all the usual suspects in the fascist white nationalist movement.

Any guesses on which side you support?

Please send us pics of the "fine people" on the fascist side.
Right-wing fascists verses the left-wing fascists. Should be fun times.
