...and then I came inside. It's a spot-type lens. There's snow on the ground, but when I came inside the grass was smoking somethin' fierce.

I don't plan on going back out to check on it for 60 minutes.

You should have mounted it up and looked directly through it. Then moved your head back and forth until you saw nothing more.

while i am glad you finally made it out of your parents basement, the only final outcome of experiments like this is the esteem of fellow geeks and the disdain of all hot females. Enjoy your geeky woman-less future.

BTW, serious question: If I setup an array of fresnel lenses covering my entire yard, would I be able to melt all the snow that's on the ground any faster than if I just let the sun shine unimpeded on it? I mean, I know the lens concentrates the light from a large surface area onto a small spot, but that also means that all the rest of that surface area which isn't in the spot is now in the shade and melting at a slower rate than if the lens wasn't blocking it.

What if I just covered an area with a black tarp?

Luckily I already captured a female -- in exchange for a small, refractive rock I get to call her my wife. Best trade ever!

I was going to suggest figuring out a way to incorporate this into clearing snow from your driveway.

Howabout a set of roof-mounted, servo-controlled Fresnels that would slowly sweep the entire area of your driveway over the course of the day?
